I just had [a 2002 Mercury 225-HP OptiMax] cowling cover painted. [I] positioned it on the motor, and there seems to be a bit of flex after I've locked the cowling cover down. I don't recall, but wonder whether the cowling bottom had a gasket attached. Can anyone with this motor confirm if the cowling cover has a gasket on the bottom?

I have the older, heavier fiberglass cowling on my 200HP OptiMax. It does NOT have a gasket around the entire cowling. It has thee pegs and latches. Where the latches connect there are small, square gaskets where the latches connect. Later Optimax went to a lighter, plastic cowling. Perhaps they added a gasket, but I tend to doubt it. |

OK, thanks Mambo. |
