I have the 15' Sport Center Console model & recently repowered it with a 4-stroke 60 Yamaha. I'm looking to down some downrigger salmon fishing (Puget Sound in WA)....I have older Penn downriggers that mount to a plate, the plate being fixed to the gunnel/hull. Anyone out there have any experience with this type mounting system for the 15' hull? I'm guessing the gunnel is not very well reinforced & the rotational stress from dragging a 10 lb. ball around is pretty significant. I'm thinking of some reinforcing process but thought I would reach out....

Not sure if this will help you but I had Scotty's and used their bracket and modified it to work with the rail. It was great because I could fish but if I didn't want them on I could take them off and keep the boat completely stock!

Its also important with the lower gunnel whalers to keep the downriggers high up as possible for clearance reasons as well much easier to see your lines. Does your model offer the back rails? It must I would think. If it does Im sure one could modify a similar idea with the Penn system.
