Cruise Lake Union and drool over all of the classic mahogany boats in the marinas.

Might be fun to cruise out to the locks, lots of sights along the way.

I am still working with the Sea Ray/Boston Whaler dealer and a stop at their facility on Lake Union is a possibility. It will be a definate stop if they spring for the T-shirts I am proposing.

I need some feedback on what time everyone would like to call it a day and head for home.

We have a great responce so far and with 3 months to go we should be able to add more.

You have done a great job getting this together. How about an update as to how many people/boats/models are comming so far. I think it was posted before on the old thread but with this new one a summary might be good.

I ran the lake Saturday to get a feel for the timing and played tourist. Had a great lunch at Iver's, saw lots of beautiful boats and didn't catch any fish.

Thanks to both of them for volunteering their time to help make this rendezvous a success.

We still have room for a lot more boats. Everybody spread the word to any Whaler owner you know.

He, NWflyfisher and me met at Tides Tavern for lunch. Tides is located in Gig Harbor, NWflyfisher's home town. Very quaint(sp?) old fishing town.

Over lunch, we talked about the upcoming Puget Sound Rendezvous. Lots of ideas were tossed out and plans put into place. Dick is really dedicated to making this such a great Rendezvous that it will become a yearly tradition.

One point did come up..Dick would like ideas from everyone!

I'll be e-mailing a questioneer to everyone interested in the rendezvous in the next day or two. I will need your response so we can finalize the plan.

I still want to run the proposed course with a couple other boats, hopefully Nwflyfisher & Tsurikibw, to help in finalizing it.

Starting to get excited about the prospects of this trip! We are stopping at Coeur d'Adelene for a day of boating. That place looks interesting.

I need your guidance. Lake Coeur d'Alene or Lake Pend Oreille, which do you favor? Or should we hit them both, one on the way out, the other on the way back?

Pend Oreille has some personal attraction, since my dad was one of the 250,000 sailors trained there during the last good war. It is also fascinating that the Navy did submarine research there, it fact, still might be. An 1100' deep lake in northern Idaho is something of an attraction.

Also, we cross the Columbia river on the way. Is that worthy of planning a stop?

There is a huge difference in the amount, quality and ease of access of information between the states of Washington and Idaho. I assume Microsoft's presence in Washington brings talent for government as well as the private sector. But Washington really has great sites.

Meanwhile, A state park person tells me that public access on Coeur d'Alene is very limited. I have found several launches, so we should be in good shape. But that is interesting for a lake that is 26 mi long.

Really hate that I have to miss the Rendezvous this year. Unfortunatley the "Big Boss" takes priority. I do hope all of you have a great time and I look forward to seeing you next time.

Tom picked up the Dauntless so he will be there.

Weather report sounds good,in the 70s. I checked the launch area again today, it's in nice condition. Parking should be no problem untill probably 1000 or so.

Thanks for the compliment. Our 2nd annual rendezvous is in the planning stages for August 2002, plenty of time to make the trip.

There have been a couple times when I wondered what I got myself into, but now that it is here I have no regrets.

We are going to have a Whaler good time and jimh will get some pictures to post for everyone to enjoy.

Couldn't ask for a better weather forcast low to mid 70s with light winds.

How a more detailed update?

Launch time was set at 0800, well before the ramp gets busy. No one was interseted in fishing so we spent the time getting aquainted and talking Whaler talk.

The weather and Lake Washington were perfect so we took a run up to Medina for a look at the Gates house, I steered everyone to the wrong one. Thanks to Tom Clark we found it, not much to see with all the trees planted in front.

From there we proceded back to Webster point past Husky Stadium and through the Montlake Cut into Lake Union.

We tied up at Ivar's Salmon House for lunch at about 1045 and had plenty of dock space. Hopefully everybody enjoyed the great food.

After lunch we cruised around the East, South and West shore of Lake Union. Elegant house boats and marinas filled with everything you could imagine. Lake Union Sea Ray/Boston Whaler ha dcleared dock space for us, so a tour of the facility was in order.

Next we headed West through the ship canal past Fremont and into Salmon Bay. The boats here range more to the commercial type, fish processors, commercial fishing boats and some you have no idea what they were designed for.

Our turnaround point was at the enterance to the Ballard Locks, where you drop down into Puget Sound.

We returned back the way we had come, but directly through the Montlake Cut rather than cruising around Lake Union.

Once we rounded Webster Point the lake was kicking up a notch or two so the run back up to Magnusen Park gave us a chance to have some fun. First time I have had the Montauk airborne with the wife aboard, she wasn't to happy.

Back at the launch around 1600 and everyone hauled out in record time. It sure is a pleasure to watch someone haul out a boat when they know what they are doing.

Sorry the day had to end but now I am looking forward to the 2002 rendezvous in Gig Harbor.

Thank you again for your efforts in setting up the day. It was fun. Our non-Whaler travelling mates was impressed with the people and the boats.

The Seattle areas has so much to offer in different boating experiences.

Also, what to thank you for cahnging the date so we could attend.

Our journey ended up being 5000 miles. We boated on Couer d'Alene on the way out, and Yellowstone Lake on the way home. While we were in the Seattle area, we toured Lake Union on our own and did a trip from Point Defiance to Gig Harbor. Putting a boat in at Point Defiance and getting it out is quite a trick! I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Especially on a weekend! Long lines and waits of possibly hours. The fact that my friend is handicapped allowed us to reduce the time to an hour!
