The official date is Saturday August 25, 2001 Starting from Magnusen Park, on Lake Washington at 8 am. Fishing tournament untill 11 am (?) Form up and parade through the cut to Iver's for lunch. Cruise Lake Union and drool over all of the classic mahogany boats in the marinas. Might be fun to cruise out to the locks, lots of sights along the way. I am still working with the Sea Ray/Boston Whaler dealer and a stop at their facility on Lake Union is a possibility. It will be a definate stop if they spring for the T-shirts I am proposing. I need some feedback on what time everyone would like to call it a day and head for home. We have a great responce so far and with 3 months to go we should be able to add more. Happy Boating |
| Tsuriki BW |
Dick, You have done a great job getting this together. How about an update as to how many people/boats/models are comming so far. I think it was posted before on the old thread but with this new one a summary might be good. Any newcomers? Join the fun! Keep feeding ideas to Dick. Tsuriki

Rendezvous update. There are 12 boats on the list now but 2 are still unsure if they can make it. A 2000 17MT from California and a 1987 15SS from Utah. The oldest boat is still a 1969 13' from Bellingham and the latest to confirm is a 1994 17OR from Seattle. I ran the lake Saturday to get a feel for the timing and played tourist. Had a great lunch at Iver's, saw lots of beautiful boats and didn't catch any fish. 103 Days and counting. |
| Dick |
Today nwflyfisher, tsurikibw and I had a lunch meeting. Lots of good ideas came out of it to make this rendezvous so enjoyable that we will have to have another one next year. Thanks to both of them for volunteering their time to help make this rendezvous a success. We still have room for a lot more boats. Everybody spread the word to any Whaler owner you know. Here is a very informative site, Dick |
| Tsuriki BW |
Dick called a pow wow. He, NWflyfisher and me met at Tides Tavern for lunch. Tides is located in Gig Harbor, NWflyfisher's home town. Very quaint(sp?) old fishing town. Over lunch, we talked about the upcoming Puget Sound Rendezvous. Lots of ideas were tossed out and plans put into place. Dick is really dedicated to making this such a great Rendezvous that it will become a yearly tradition. One point did come up..Dick would like ideas from everyone! Post them on this forum or e.mail him direcly. Spread the word, this is going to be fun.. Tsuriki |
| NWflyfisher |
While we were having lunch, the question came up as to whether all the attendees were fish eaters (SOMEONE ordered a burger :) .) That lead to the question of any special dietary needs. Anyway, here's the URL to Ivar's Restaurant where we are planning to dock and have the take-out lunch on the boats: http://www.ivarsrestaurants.com/ Click on Quick Service and the Menu to see what is offered. If there's any special needs or if the menu doesn't cut for anyone, please email Dick and let him know. |

Nwflyfisher is doing a great job posting rendezvous flyers in the South Sound, I covered Bellingham, Anacortas & Oak Harbor yesterday. Would be nice if we could get some of our Canadian neighbors to join us. I am going to try and make a run up there next week. I'll be e-mailing a questioneer to everyone interested in the rendezvous in the next day or two. I will need your response so we can finalize the plan. I still want to run the proposed course with a couple other boats, hopefully Nwflyfisher & Tsurikibw, to help in finalizing it. Dick |

At this point in time there is nothing set for Sunday August 26. Who will attend if we put something together for Sunday? We have lots of options for different areas to cruise and sights to see. Let's here your thoughts on this. Dick |
| NWflyfisher |
Confirming my attendance at the Puget Sound Whaler Rendezvous: Q. How many people will be in your boat? Q. What is your boat Q. Do you have a VHF radio? Q. What is the name of your boat?: Q. Call name on the radio?: Q. Does anyone need a motel? Q. Saturdays lunch is at a seafood restaraunt, is this ok, or would you prefer something else?
|
| Dick |
Guess since I started this I had better respond as well. There will be 3 of us. Myself, my wife Karen and our English Cocker Murphy. The boat is a 1999 Montauk, 16'7" powered by a Mercury 50hp 4 stroke. VHF is installed. Boat name and call sign is Murphy Girl. Yes sea food is great. Sorry Bill was busy and couldn't cook. |
| Russ |
Dick, My wife and I plan to be there. I think it would be better if we left our ol' dawg, Luke, at home. I think I can find someone to take care of him. We'll have a 1981, 18.5' Outrage with a 150hp Black Max. I might take my 15 hp Honda kicker, too. We have a VHF. We have reservations at an RV campground in Bothell. They say it's about 25 minutes to Magnuson Park. The seafood plan is very good. I'm wondering how that's going to work. Is there a dock available for all of the Whalers? We'd like to see some of the Lake Washington shorline, especially Mercer Island, including the Bill Gates place. I'm very interested in seeing Lake Union, too. I'll save my questions about fishing until later. Russ |
| Tsuriki BW |
Boaters: 2, me and Tom Clark (Right Tom?, wife will be taking care of in-laws) Boat: 1999 Dauntless 14, 75hp merc 2 stroke, electric trolling. Radio: I have VHF and FRS Name/Call sign Yukon II Accomidations: None needed Sat Lunch: Seafood is fine Fishing: Yes, I would like to do. Sunday: Not sure yet. Interests: Coast Guard station on Lake Union, Lake Washington Cruse, Info on history of area, Fishermans Terminal, meeting other Whaler owners. Look forward to meeting all of you. Lets keep this post active. We still have plenty of time and Dick is looking for more ideas/comments. Tsuriki

| Tom W Clark |
I'm with Cap'n Tsuriki and I do whatever skipper tells me to. My main objective is to not vent bile all over his Dauntless. |
| Russ |
Oh yeah. My call sign is Russ. I can usually remember that one. The name of the boat is Tanja-Lynn Too. Russ |
| Rodger |
Hi All, Looks like my wife and I will be able to make it up for the rendezvous, it's in INK on the calendar! How many people will be in your boat? What is your boat model, year, length and power? Do you have a VHF radio? Yes. What is the name of your boat or your call name on the radio? Hmm...we will have to make one up. Does anyone need a motel? No, we will stay with some friends in the Tacoma area. Thanks Dick, Tsurikibw, and Nwflyfisher for putting this together. We look forward to meeting everyone, it should be a good time.

| RFK |
Dick, There will be four of us. All from Rockford,Il. (We may add one or two of our friend's kids from the Seattle area.) Our boat is a 1991 16SL(15'6"),with a 2000 90hp Yamaha. The name of the boat is Reposo. We have a VHF radio. Our call sign is Reposo We would love to see Ivar's. Fish is fine. We have lodging. We look forward to seeing Lake Washington and Lake Union. Whatever you guys decide on a itinerary will be fine. We also add our thanks for what you have done. Dick Kunnert |
| Tsuriki BW |
Aarrrrg..Tom, me boy. Spill vile on my ship and I'll have ya swabbin' the decks the whole trip! LOL Look forward to meeting and having you on board! Tsuriki |

Here are 3 sites of interest. The first one will give you the current Washington fishing regulations. The other two have excellent information on Lake Washington fishing. www.wa.gov/wdfw/fish/regs/fishregs.htm www.washingtonlakes.com/king.htm http://seattlep-i.nwsource.com/ See you on August 25th. Dick |

NWflyfisher has done a great job of putting a web site together for Puget Sound Whaler owners. Check it out. http://groups.cs.com/pugetsoundwhaler/ Dick |
| NWflyfisher |
Thanks for the kind words, but I need to clarify: that's not a publicly accessable web site. Its a controlled access "group" specifically for discussions unique to boating in Puget Sound that really aren't appropriate for Jim's Classic Whaler Forum. Any questions or discussions about Boston Whaler boats should always go to http://continuouswave.com/whaler. Any Puget Sound Whalers (or Puget Sound wannabes) should send me an email request at pswhaler@cs.com to get the key to get in the door. Sorry for the confusion. |
| Dick |
Rendezvous update. Thought every one would like to see a list of the boats that have confirmed so far, along with their home port. 1997 13 Dauntless Vancouver, WA We still have plenty of room for more so join us for a day of fun on Lake Washington and Lake Union August 25, 2001. Dick |
| Dick |
I had a meeting yesterday with the NW Sea Ray/Boston Whaler dealer. They are enthused about the rendezvous and at this point will at least participate by having their #1 Whaler man join us on the cruise. He knows Whalers, has been selling them for years started out back in Mass or close to it. He and his boat will be a welcome addition. What new Whaler would everyone like to see him show up with? |
| RFK |
Dick, Nice going. It would be fun to have a Whaler historian around. Peace, Dick K. |
| Dick |
Found this site today. It's great for anyone trailering in Washington. A comprehensive list and description of all launching ramps in the state. http://boat.iac.wa.gov |
| RFK |
Thank you, Dick. Checked that site out and it will be very helpful! Starting to get excited about the prospects of this trip! We are stopping at Coeur d'Adelene for a day of boating. That place looks interesting. Dick K. |

Thanks for the email Dick..Thanks for your hard work in puting this seattle trip together I plan to be there...a worthwhile 5 hour drive =) Can you recommend any fairly close hotels? 1982 Sport 15 Hank Wiswell |
| Dick |
Hank Welcome aboard. I will get back to you with information on motels and driving directions. Should have time tomorrow to check out the motel situation. Dick |
| Dick |
If anyone coming to the rendezvous needs a parking place for their boat, let me know. I have room in my driveway for one more. Coffee is included on Saturday morning before heading to the launch site. |
| Dick |
Rendezvous up date. As of today there are 9 boats confirmed. The smallest, a 1969 13 Sport and the largest, a 1981 18 Outrage with a good representation of boats between the two. The lomgest distance traveled to get here, over 2000 miles from Illinois. Looking forward to a great Whaler day on the water. Dick |
| Tsuriki BW |
Roger in Gig Harbor! I have the 14 Dauntless and you have the very nice classic Mountauk. We talked about this site and the rendezvous. Hope you have found this site and enjoy it. Please contact Dick if you are interested in joining us. We'd love to have you come. Greg |
| Dick |
Today I posted an invitation on Trailor Sailor.com and invited the Boston Whaler sail boat owners to join us for the rendezvous. It would be great to have all aspects of Boston Whaler represented. Don't know if the sailboats have ever been included in a rendezvous before, we may have a first here. Thanks NWflyfisher for opening my eyes to this other side of Boston Whaler dedication. Dick |
| RFK |
Folks, I need your guidance. Lake Coeur d'Alene or Lake Pend Oreille, which do you favor? Or should we hit them both, one on the way out, the other on the way back? Pend Oreille has some personal attraction, since my dad was one of the 250,000 sailors trained there during the last good war. It is also fascinating that the Navy did submarine research there, it fact, still might be. An 1100' deep lake in northern Idaho is something of an attraction. Also, we cross the Columbia river on the way. Is that worthy of planning a stop? Please feel free to drop any other suggestions into the pot. Thanks, Dick K. |
| Dick |
Dick I have never boated on Pend Orille or the Columbia. Pend Orille is beautifull and might be worth a cruise. Parts of the Columbia look good too. Especially around Tri Cities and Wenatchee. Dick |
| Tsuriki BW |
Dick, Since "Pend Oreille has some personal attraction, since my dad was one of the 250,000 sailors trained there " you obviously have a special reason to visit there. Do It! I think you'll be glad you did. Tsuriki

Thank you for your opinions. I have been having an interesting time with the folks in Idaho. The Web Master for Coeur d'Alene and the Idaho State Parks. There is a huge difference in the amount, quality and ease of access of information between the states of Washington and Idaho. I assume Microsoft's presence in Washington brings talent for government as well as the private sector. But Washington really has great sites. Meanwhile, A state park person tells me that public access on Coeur d'Alene is very limited. I have found several launches, so we should be in good shape. But that is interesting for a lake that is 26 mi long. We experienced the limited access phenomena several years ago when we went to New York. Getting on the Hudson can be a real trick, unless your willing to pay excessive fees for outsiders. (Use county parks.) |

Just a little over two weeks to go. Everything is set at this end and I am anxiously awaiting the day for all of us to get to get together. The weather this weekend looks like the low 80s, hope we can hold on to it for the rendezvous. Just in case, bring rain gear. Dick |
| Tsuriki BW |
Dick, Really hate that I have to miss the Rendezvous this year. Unfortunatley the "Big Boss" takes priority. I do hope all of you have a great time and I look forward to seeing you next time. Tom picked up the Dauntless so he will be there. Best wishes for a great start of what will, hopefully, be an annual event. Tsuriki |

Well who'd a thunk it? I got me self a Brunswick powered, Brunswick built boat parked in front of my house! This thing is geared up to the nines, ready to slay some serious trout. Dick, pray tell, what is the routine for Saturday morning? How many are fishing? Have you any tips for a fresh water neophyte like me? |
| Tsuriki BW |
Tom, Don't forget LM and SM Bass, Catfish, perch and salmon (If we had a sockeye season in the lake) LOL Enjoy and good luck. Tsuriki |
| Dick |
Tom Congratulations, glad you are going to be able to join us. Work calls now but I will post more rendezvous details tonight. Dick |
| Dick |
I e mailed a schedule for Saturdays rendezvous to everybody earlier today. If for some reason you didn't recieve it let me know. Weather report sounds good,in the 70s. I checked the launch area again today, it's in nice condition. Parking should be no problem untill probably 1000 or so. See everyone on Saturday. Dick |
| Louie Kokinis |
Dick, please email me a schedule for Saturdays rendezvous. It looks like we will be trailering down from Vancouver Friday evening (only variable now is the weather). Louie email: kokinis@attglobal.net |
| Dick |
Louie Welcome to the Puget Sound Rendezvous. The itinerary is on its way. Dick |
| lhg |
Gee, this thing is starting to sound like fun! Sorry I won't be able to handle the 2000 mile tow to meet everybody. Dick, it sure looks like you've done a great job and put a lot of effort into it. Have fun, all, which I know you will, and send JimH some PICTURES. |
| Dick |
Ihg Thanks for the compliment. Our 2nd annual rendezvous is in the planning stages for August 2002, plenty of time to make the trip. There have been a couple times when I wondered what I got myself into, but now that it is here I have no regrets. We are going to have a Whaler good time and jimh will get some pictures to post for everyone to enjoy. Dick |

The day has arived. The First Annual Puget Spound Boston Whaler Rendezvous gets underway in about 3 hours. Couldn't ask for a better weather forcast low to mid 70s with light winds. I would like to thank NW Flyfisher and TSURIKI BW for their assistance in making it happen. Thanks also to all who have signed on to join us. Sea Ray NW, as the local Boston Whaler dealer, deserves thanks for the monitary support they provided. It's off to the lake now. Dick |

The first annual Puget Sound rendezvous is now in the history book. We had 7 boats to start but one had leave early to go to work. The line up was a good representation of Boston Whalers. One boat from Rockford, Il, one from Camarillo, CA, one from Vancouver, WA and the rest from the Seattle area. The weather was perfect, but I forgot my sun screen. I'll send some pictures to jimh in the next few days for posting. Thanks again to all who participated. It was a pleasure meeting everyone and a delight to see that we all have the same intense dedication to our Boston Whalers. Dick

Congratulations Dick, You worked really hard to bring this about. You have started a tradition! Tsuriki (on assignment in NYC) |

Dick, How a more detailed update? Thanks. Tsuriki |

2001 Puget Sound Area Rendezvous Launch time was set at 0800, well before the ramp gets busy. No one was interseted in fishing so we spent the time getting aquainted and talking Whaler talk. The weather and Lake Washington were perfect so we took a run up to Medina for a look at the Gates house, I steered everyone to the wrong one. Thanks to Tom Clark we found it, not much to see with all the trees planted in front. From there we proceded back to Webster point past Husky Stadium and through the Montlake Cut into Lake Union. We tied up at Ivar's Salmon House for lunch at about 1045 and had plenty of dock space. Hopefully everybody enjoyed the great food. After lunch we cruised around the East, South and West shore of Lake Union. Elegant house boats and marinas filled with everything you could imagine. Lake Union Sea Ray/Boston Whaler ha dcleared dock space for us, so a tour of the facility was in order. Next we headed West through the ship canal past Fremont and into Salmon Bay. The boats here range more to the commercial type, fish processors, commercial fishing boats and some you have no idea what they were designed for. Our turnaround point was at the enterance to the Ballard Locks, where you drop down into Puget Sound. We returned back the way we had come, but directly through the Montlake Cut rather than cruising around Lake Union. Once we rounded Webster Point the lake was kicking up a notch or two so the run back up to Magnusen Park gave us a chance to have some fun. First time I have had the Montauk airborne with the wife aboard, she wasn't to happy. Back at the launch around 1600 and everyone hauled out in record time. It sure is a pleasure to watch someone haul out a boat when they know what they are doing. Sorry the day had to end but now I am looking forward to the 2002 rendezvous in Gig Harbor. Dick |
| Rodger |
Hi all, I just wanted to thank Dick and Greg for their hard work to organize the 2001 Puget Sound rendezvous. I certainly had a great time boating and sightseeing. However, the best part of a rendezvous is the chance to meet and create friendships with some truly outstanding people. It’s not everyday that we get to share our love for Boston Whalers in such a way. I am already looking forward to the next Pacific North West rendezvous in Gig Harbor, Washington in the summer of 2002. Thanks, Rodger - 1997 13’ Dauntless - Vancouver, WA |
| Russ |
Dick, My wife and I appreciate all the time, money, and effort you, and others, put into the Puget Sound Rendezvous. We've never seen so many boats in a single day before. And such a great variety! It was really great to flock with other birds of a feather. The day was over too soon. We're looking forward to next year's event. Luke says hay. Russ |
| RFK |
Dick, Thank you again for your efforts in setting up the day. It was fun. Our non-Whaler travelling mates was impressed with the people and the boats. The Seattle areas has so much to offer in different boating experiences. Also, what to thank you for cahnging the date so we could attend. Our journey ended up being 5000 miles. We boated on Couer d'Alene on the way out, and Yellowstone Lake on the way home. While we were in the Seattle area, we toured Lake Union on our own and did a trip from Point Defiance to Gig Harbor. Putting a boat in at Point Defiance and getting it out is quite a trick! I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Especially on a weekend! Long lines and waits of possibly hours. The fact that my friend is handicapped allowed us to reduce the time to an hour! Thanks, Dick. Dick Kunnert |
