Re: Navigation lights take 5-10 minutes to turn on

PS: yes, the switch is a lighted switch. I didn't have a voltmeter with me so didn't measure voltages.

Re: Navigation lights take 5-10 minutes to turn on

I looked at the contacts on the festoon bulbs in the port and starboard navigation lamps. The contacts appeared to be clean, but I scrubbed them with a wire brush anyway and applied CRC electrical cleaner. Still no success. Next, I took apart the electrical console to gain access to the Navigation-A...

Re: Navigation lights take 5-10 minutes to turn on

Thanks for the advice, and the generosity of all of you in sharing your expertise. Interestingly, the switch to turn on the running lights gets quite hot to the touch after a few minutes when the lights turn on. I'll clean the contacts for the festoon bulbs and see what I can find re the switch: it ...

Navigation lights take 5-10 minutes to turn on

This problem has vexed me for the last several years, but--for whatever reason--the red and green running lights on my 2007 Conquest 235 take 5 to 10 minutes to turn on when I'm running the boat. The white anchor light turns on immediately. I assume that the run from the batteries to the navigation ...

Re: Recharging depleted AGM battery

Thanks, Jim. I've been trying to charge the battery a little bit at a time over successive days on low voltage and there are signs that it may be reviving.

Recharging depleted AGM battery

Thanks to Jim and this forum I learned a year or so ago that the flooded-cell lead-acid batteries that my Whaler dealer used to replace the batteries on my 2007 235 Conquest with a 250 Verado were incorrect. I was astonished to learn that they didn't use AGM batteries when the Verado owner's manual ...

Re: The Market for Outboard Engine Re-powering

Interesting discussion. I have a 2007 Conquest 235 with a Mercury Verado 250 with 600 hours, maintained yearly by the dealer. I’m wondering at what point should I consider repowering. Fortunately, my boat was, I think, designed in the modern era with heavy 4 stroke outboards in mind. If I were to re...

Re: 2004 130 Sport: Relocating Battery

Thanks for the replies and the advice. I've finished relocating the battery under the port side of the forward seat but have not had a chance to put the boat in the water yet. It's good to know that your boat drains better with the battery weight re-distributed. Relocating the battery required an ex...

2004 130 Sport: Relocating Battery

I'm considering relocating the battery on my 2004 130 Sport from its current location on the starboard side to the port side underneath the forward seat in order to reduce the tendency for the boat to list to starboard at rest. The boat, which has bottom paint, is kept in the water year round at my ...

Re: Battery Failure

Thanks, Jim. I'll give it a try re the switch. I've written the dealer and asked why they replaced my batteries with lead acid batteries in 2014 instead of AGM's. I copied and pasted the relevant portion from the Verado manual that I found. I've had all kinds of problems with my Furuno electronics s...

Re: Battery Failure

Thanks, Jim, for your detailed replies. This has been very informative. I'm surprised that the dealer installed lead acid batteries knowing that I have a Verado. I do appreciate the reference for the wiring diagrams; I've actually gone onto the website in the past and I have downloaded and saved all...

Battery Failure

After only two years, the batteries on my 2007 Boston Whaler Conquest 235 have failed and will no longer take a charge. I had new batteries installed in 2014. The Starboard battery failed a few weeks ago, and was replaced during its annual service with an Interstate 27M-XHD cranking battery with 800...

As it turns out, the larger TZtouch2 screen actually requires a larger cut out. Thanks for your prompt reply

Upgrading electronics: console modifications?

I'm considering upgrading the electronics suite on my 2007 Conquest 235 from Furuno Navnet VX2 to their newer Navnet TzTouch2 system. The problem is that even though the display area with the TZtouch2 screens are larger than the existing Navnet VX2 display, the overall size of the TZtouch2 screens i...

Re: NMEA output for 2007 Verado?

Thanks, Jolly. I've been sniffing around the interweb and I've found that Mercury does indeed manufacture a gateway for NMEA 2000 output. When I have some spare time and cash to devote to this project I might just do it. Currently, I have a Furuno Navnet VX2 which is proving temperamental in terms o...

NMEA output for 2007 Verado?

I have a 2007 Conquest 235 with a 250 hp Verado with a Smartcraft gauge on the console. I am considering upgrading the electronics suite to a Furuno Navnet tzTouch2, and I see that it has the capability of displaying engine data on the touchscreen via a NMEA interface with the engine. I see that the...

Verado power steering fluid mystery: where did it go?

The power steering pump on my Mercury Verado 250 failed last year and was replaced by the dealer. Last weekend I started the process of getting the Conquest 235 out of mothballs and commissioned for the summer. I notice that when I turn on the engine, there is a mechanical whirring and stirring soun...
