Re: SUPER SPORT 15 Shipping Boat to RI from SC

Jim that’s a great suggestion. The reason I was going flatbed route was because it just seemed safer for the boat and I also was not aware a lot of shipping companies out there would direct tow and that it would be less expensive. Does anyone know off hand any companies that specialize in towing boa...

Re: SUPER SPORT 15 Shipping Boat to RI from SC

Thanks for the reply. That’s a lot more money than I was hoping for. I would trailer it myself, but it’s too much time off work and a pain. Plus then I would have to drive right back so one way shipped option seems the best. It’s a family boat that my grandfather owned and it’s a family heirloom so ...

SUPER SPORT 15 Shipping Boat to RI from SC

Please recommend a reputable shipping company to ship my 1985 SUPER SPORT 15 to Rhode Island from Charleston, South Carolina preferably on a flatbed truck, and give an estimate of the cost to be expected. This trip is approximately 930-miles. Thanks--Andy

Boat Cover for 1985 Super Sport 15

Hi there. I am in the market for a boat cover for my 1985 Super Sport 15. I was hoping someone might have a recommendation for a brand they had a good fit with for their Super Sport 15 of similar age with bow rails approximately 12-inches tall. Also, I have a custom backrest to original driver's sea...

Re: Engine Starting Problems

Thank you for the replies. The electrical article was very informative. By wouldn't start I mean that the [flywheel] spins but the engine would not fire. I will try some battery tests and also measure voltage at cranking motor when cranking. Curious about testing current through battery cables as we...

Engine Starting Problems

I am having starting problems with my 1985 Evinrude 40hp. I had early season engine troubles which turned out to be the timer base. Have been out a few times since the repair and engine seems to start up fine initially, but after shutting it off for a few minutes or an hour I have had problems start...

Re: 1985 Evinrude 40-HP Won't Start

I tried disconnecting one of the kill switch leads in the throttle assembly with no luck. Hard to tell if it wasn't making contact though since several leads are seemingly just mounted on inside of throttle metal body. Did my best to hold it away with rolled up piece of electrical tape. At this poin...

Re: 1985 Evinrude 40-HP Won't Start

Thanks for the helpful replies! Last night I determined that I have no spark. Not sure where to go from here.

Can a magneto just fail with time?

What else would be the possible likely culprits for no spark?

Thanks!

1985 Evinrude 40-HP Won't Start

I'm on vacation in Rhode Island, and my 1985 Evinrude 40-HP will not start. I am desperate for any tips that might help me get it going for the holiday weekend. It cranks fine, but will not start or show any indication that it wants to start. I had a gas line with a bad priming bulb and thought I wa...

Re: Bottom Paint Recommendations. Barrier Coat or Traditional Paint and Primer

Macfam thanks for desert tan bottom paint thread! The picture of the paint job isn't coming up from the 2008 post in the old forum. Toying with idea of doing the same thing and outfitter I have has Petit paint so I could use his formula but the formula Jeff had success with I can't use because they ...

Re: Bottom Paint Recommendations. Barrier Coat or Traditional Paint and Primer

Decided to go with barrier coat. Likely Interlux unless anyone recommends strongly Petit. That's two best brands outfitter carries. One thing I was looking for advice on was what to put on top of barrier coat for paint. Outfitter said I may want to do 2 coats of an Interlux Fiberglass Bottomkote NT ...

Re: Bottom Paint Recommendations. Barrier Coat or Traditional Paint and Primer

Thanks for all the responses! I tried establishing my waterline yesterday in a lake using a pencil. Tried finding a grease pen at several car parts stores to no avail. It was not too fun with NH lake temps being fairly cold still and black flies in full swing. I put battery onboard and two full 6 ga...

Bottom Paint Recommendations. Barrier Coat or Traditional Paint and Primer

I have a 1985 Supersport 15 that has never been painted. Was in freshwater for about 10 years or so and then when in salt from 1995-2007.I used to haul and power wash or dive on it and scrub bottom every few weeks in summer in RI. From 2007- present it has been trailered. I just got a slip for the s...
