Re: New Suzuki DF30A
I just repowered my 1980 Sport 13 with a new Suzuki DF30A and love it. Very quiet and smooth. I am pleased with the acceleration; but have not yet run at full throttle for any extended period since I am still operating during break-in period.

Re: Rockland Plant Tour c.1990
Thanks for posting the article. I remember touring the Rockland, Massachusetts, plant in 1990. I still remember the strong smell of resin everywhere we went until we went into the wood shop and then it was the sweet smell of cut teak and mahogany. We then toured the Edgewater, FL plant in 1994. Alth...

Re: White All-round Lamp Replacement Lightbulb Socket
I replaced a socket recently with a 0024DP1 which I believe is the same as 0024DP2 but with a shorter wire length (10" vs 60"). I believe that the 0024DP2 is desirable with the longer length; but I found the 0024DP1 at West Marine and spliced in a longer wire to make it work. The 0024DP2 i...

Re: E-TEC 90 Color: Graphite or White?
It depends on the hull. If it's an older model with blue interior, I would go with white. My opinion is that the white engines look better on the older hulls since they look more like the older OMC engines. There are advantages and disadvantages to each cowling color. The graphite will be less likel...

Re: Value of c.1958 Hull
Where is this boat located? Can you post a picture? I would think that actual condition of an older hull such as this would be a major factor in determining value. To the right buyer there might be a higher intrinsic value with the FP designation if the hull does not require major work.

Re: Moisture Meter Readings
As an additional data point, I took some readings from a 1980 Boston Whaler 13' Sport using a JR Overseas Model GRP33 Moisture Meter.. The readings on the deck and hull were between dry and moist as indicated by the GRP relative scale on the meter.. See pictures below. An important factor to conside...

Re: MONTAUK 17: Drilling Console for Wiring
When trying to determine the correct hole size for multiple connectors with molded connectors, I find it useful to experiment on a scrap piece of plywood so that you can determine the exact requirements of the opening before breaching the console. Another tip when cutting a hole through a finished s...

Re: Shortening a control cable
Shortening the tilt-n-trim harness assembly should not cause a problem. I would consider using heat shrink butt connectors to provide a mechanical and watertight seal. The ABYC standard (sec 11.14.5.7) states " Solder shall not be the sole means of mechanical connection in any circuit. If solde...

Re: Non-pyrotechnic Distress Signal Lamp
Thanks for the info. That certainly looks like a great option. I am considering buying one of these non-pyrotechnic distress signal lamps. I will probably keep a printout of eCFR 33 CFR 175.130 Visual Distress Signals Accepted, in the event that I am inspected and the inspector is looking specifical...

Re: Oetiker Clamps
Great info. Thanks. I am in the process of replacing some of the fuel hose in my Conquest and had ordered some pinch clamps for the 3/4" O.D. fuel hose. I ordered the clamps from McMaster-Carr and I was happy to see that they were Oetiker branded. A package of 25 clamps cost $5.55. The pincers ...

Re: The Story of the Restoration of a 13-footer
I agree that you will have to support the KING Starboard for the thwart seats to prevent sagging. Another factor is the additional weight. Example: a thwart seat measures 53.75" X 11" X 1" which would weigh 210lbs if fabricated out of KING Starboard. A comparable seat made of mahogany...

Re: 2004 Mercury 225 FourStroke - corrosion repair?
I believe that your engine may have been manufactured by Yamaha. Yamaha had a problem with 2000-2005 F225 engines and dry exhaust stack corrosion. You may want to check with your dealer. This concern is very well known for Yamaha branded F225 engines and may carry over to Mercury engines as well. ht...

Thanks for the tip, Oldslowandugly. I do plan on adding charge capabilities. I was considering just adding charge capability to the existing pull start configuration; but figured I would be better off with a complete upgrade. The electric start would also give me piece of mind if my wife or son were...

FLIR ONE $250 Camera for Engine Diagnosis
Just wanted to post a couple of pics taken after I finished the rebuild of the Johnson 30-HP engine from my 1980 Sport 13. Re: Anchor hatch fiberglass repair
Another option if a repair is not feasible is to replace with Starboard AS. This material has an non-skid molded into one side. I replaced the fish box hatches on my 2000 Conquest 28 with these and 2 seasons later they are holding up well. They do not flex and the nonskid is effective. I purchased t...

Re: Through Hull Transducer Install in 1984 Outrage 25
Looks like a pretty good solution. Too bad airmar didn't have more extended length transducer stems. As far as i can tell it's only the B744VL with fairing block. Are you planning on sealing the exposed core foam? I had considered taking this approach as well; but I am concerned about water accumula...
