Re: 1999 Ventura 20 Advice

My Dauntless doesn’t have a fuel-water separator. I’ve never had one on a boat and have never had a problem. (Fingers crossed). JTC my bilge is wet too, the deck plate gasket in the splash well is shot and water gets into the bilge there. Where else does water get into yours? My engine is also mount...

Re: 1999 Ventura 20 Advice

I purchased a 1996 20’ Dauntless/Ventura last summer. For a family of four it’s proving to be a great boat. Not a ton of fishing for us,mainly use it as a swimming tubing water skiing and boat to camp off of. Use the boat mainly on inland lakes and have taken her to the Apostle islands twice and to ...

Re: Dauntless 16 performance

I had the same set-up, loved that DAUNTLESS 16, recently sold it due to a growing family. I also had the same problem: the DAUNTLESS 16 had too much bow up-attitude at slower speed which caused a rough ride. I first put on a stainless propeller—helped but didn’t solve the problem. Next put on a hydr...

Re: 1996 DAUNTLESS 20

Thanks for the replies everyone. Very helpful. JTC--have you played around with engine mounting height in this boat? [The engine is] currently in the deepest mounting setting. I’m debating raising the engine height this summer for better [acceleration from a standing start at full throttle]. We love...

Re: 1996 Ventura 20

It's a 1996 20-foot Dauntless. [I am] enjoying the ride but there are a couple weird things with this [DAUNTLESS 20] boat. The storage underneath the [stern quarter] jump seats fills with water if there is any rain. There are plugs in each of these spaces. Were they intended to hold bait? Has anyone...

Jim--thanks for the great report. Do you ever see anyone camping on the islands? Are there dedicated sites?

1996 DAUNTLESS 20

[Original article referred to the boat as a VENTURA--jimh] Anyone have any experience with [a DAUNTLESS 20] boat? I just picked up a 1996 [DAUNTLESS] 20. [Are there] any nuances to be aware of? A couple questions: The previous owner let me know that the fish locker on the starboard side in the deck ...

Re: 160 DAUNTLESS, Yamaha F115, Hard to Plane

I got my prop from Tom Clark too. He's a great help in selecting the right prop for your boat/engine combination and the stainless prop he recommended for me did make a big difference. However I did find that even with an excellent prop and the engine mounted all the way up, that this little boat wi...

Re: 160 DAUNTLESS, Yamaha F115, Hard to Plane

I also have a 2001 Dauntless with the transom notch and a Yamaha F100. I love the boat. It took me a while to get it dialed in. [The 2001 Dauntless ] didn't have acceleration [problems]; rather [the 2001 Dauntless] porpoised. To keep the bow down in any sort of chop was troublesome. My goal was to o...
