Black Stain Around Battery and Sulfur Smell

I have a 1983 Montauk with a 1997 Evinrude 90=HP engine. The boat's battery is new in a new battery box that I have mounted to the deck in stern on the port side. There is a spreading black stain on the deck around the battery box and a strong sulfur "rotten egg" smell in the boat when we ...

Evinrude Single Lever Remote Controls

I recently purchased my 1983 Montauk with a '97 90hp Evinrude outboard and finally got her in the water last night. The boat's binnacle is covered by electrical tape from below the throttle handle all the way down and around the base of the throttle. I thought this was to just reinforce the throttle...

Re: Specialty Marine Replacement Navigation Lamp Pole Does Not Fit

thanks guys. I am going to measure diameter. Specialty Marine now stands corrected and believes the light pole should be 3/4" and that it is possible the light pole I received is bigger than that. They've asked me to measure and send photo. Will update this post with findings...

Specialty Marine Replacement Navigation Lamp Pole Does Not Fit

I ordered a replacement navigation lamp pole from Specialty Marine for my 1983 Montauk without the stanchion and standoff kit because the originals are still on the stern. Unfortunately the pole diameter is too large to fit the existing stanchion and standoff. Specialty Marine says, "All Boston...

Re: 1983 Montauk missing Hull Identification Number

Thanks guys. I called and spoke to Chuck who pulled their old hand written logs with the hull stencils and read me of the HIN which indeed matched the HIN on my title. I've got an email into Magic Brush to order an official replacement HIN. What a great resource you have all been. Thanks again.

Re: 1983 Montauk missing Hull Identification Number

This is great information. Thank you very much. Great question about how the previous owner was able to register it without a HIN. He claims all he took with him to get it registered was the title and that he didn't have a problem. It will be interesting to find out if the HIN on the title matches t...

Yes. The stencil serial number is still visible on the center of the inside transom.

1983 Montauk missing Hull Identification Number

I recently bought and restored a 1983 Montauk for which I have the title. When I went to register it at 251 Causeway in Boston they told me I can't register it without a pencil tracing of the Hull Identification Number, which is missing. I bought the boat a guy who said he went to Hyannis and just n...
