In the Summer of 2018 the local Whaler dealer here in the Lake Minnetonka area sponsored a rendezvous: only two boats showed up.
Let's just say we ate well and picket up a few free Whaler Tee shirts and hats.

New SEI lower unit 1991 Yamaha 200
My Port engine lower unit died on the 3rd of July. I was running on the Mississippi River, I was throttling on and off hard as we navigated a very large wake, lost power and had a bad grinding noise. No external damage and no water in the gear oil. I had a new SEI counter rotating lower unit install...

I just cannot resist pointing this out. They are using a Gamin 48 handheld for the test. I got one in 1998 or so, it is not even WAAS capable. How can the internal battery still be alive mine died years ago.

Re: Anchors used for the Montauk 170
Danforth 5-lbs high-tensile, is what I have on my 1966 16'. Small enough to fit in the locker but strong enough to do the job. I boat on inland lakes. It is hard to compare a Chene anchor as they have no holding power table that I could find. Also the chain is not only to help place the flukes in th...

Re: Boat Cover When On Highway; Engine Supports
I recommend that you do not trailer with a cover on the boat. I have lots of miles trailering boats personally and professionally (10+ years as the co owner of a Boat Transport company). Too many things can go wrong with a cover on the boat. If it comes loose, the cover and or the boat can be damage...

Re: Future of Marine Charts in USA
Jim,
Did the article mention anything about NOAA not updating shore features on Charts? For example not adding new towers, or not showing the removal of a tower.
My understanding is that NOAA has stopped doing this.

Jim you forgot the inflatable you are sitting in, you can add two 2.5 Suzuki four strokes for the two inflatable boats
Too bad DRIFTWOOD was not with the group for this picture. Her presence would have changed the survey results.

Hello,
I lost the top piece off the windshield on my 1966 whaler 16, I would love to get my hands on an original part to replace it.

Re: Dock Side
Just to have fun with the term Port Maybe it is not referring to the left side of a boat/dock (port), maybe it is referring to the protected anchorage (port) side of the dock, or marina (port) side of the dock or the harbor (port) side of the dock, as these would all be the port side of the dock acc...

Re: c.1960 16-footer Re-power
I agree the [quoted] price of the E-TEC sounds too high. I re-powered my 1966 16-footer with a 90 E-TEC. The hull and that engine are a perfect match. They look great together, and the boat performs great. I am getting [more than] 6-MPG at cruising speeds. Here in [Minnesota] the self-winterizing fe...

Re: 23 WALKAROUND WHALER DRIVE: Removing the WHALER DRIVE
I own a 23 walk around, I would d never consider trying to turn it into a notched transom. The two boats have extremely different cockpit layout. You would have to cut out the sinks and life well and then make a new splash well transom somehow. I would strongly recommend that you buy a notched trans...

Re: Burt Lake Speed Test
At 44.7 mph CONTINUOUSWAVE is lot more stable. DON's DAUNTLES was having a hard time tracking , lots of chime walk. I had to back off when we encountered a pretty small boat wake as she was just too unstable at that speed. But I can say she managed 44.7 mph for several hair raising minutes that day.

Re: Burt Lake Speed Test
Do not count Don's little boat out. After much trim work, she was running at 44.7 mph.
Next year we will have to put Holly Marie in the race. Her top end of 56 mph will be hard to catch. I will make sure to bring her up with a near empty fuel tank.
