Re: 13 GLS and Large Stern Wave

spot on Yellowjacket , that might have been the simple solution although i didn't think about it at the time, guess we all wanted to stay out of the sun under the canopy ,but the weight distribution towards the bow makes the most sense .

Re: 13 GLS and Large Stern Wave

There is a big difference [in the wake height] between idling speed and planing speed. Factors like wind and tide [affect wake height]. Boston Whaler added a bit of weight to the GLS with that console, the seat setup is glass over wood compared to the simple wood console and seats, plus the foward c...

Re: 13 GLS and Large Stern Wave

I might move the fibreglass seat console setup about 6-inches forward--it is pretty heavy. Battery is under console but the fuel was at the [stern]. I know that the 40-HP engine is allowable, but I often think an engine 40 to 50-lbs lighter hanging off the stern might better suit the boat. For examp...

13 GLS and Large Stern Wave

In a small creek the other day [in a Boston Whaler 13 GLS boat] with four adults aboard and powered by a Yamaha 40-HP two-stroke-power-cycle engine with fuel and battery, and well before I was to pass another boat or kayak, I had to slow down to a crawl due to the size of the stern wave the boat was...

Re: 180 Dauntless In Following Seas

Jimh--the waterline mark is proper from comparing the other Boston Whaler boats seen on the Internet. [I] guess, because [I] like the setup, [I] was looking for some feedback regarding my concerns that--even with a lower transom--the DAUNTLESS is not just a calm water boat and can handle a bit of ch...

Re: 180 Dauntless In Following Seas

[The boat that is mentioned in the initial article in this thread and which is now being discussed as an individual example of a Boston Whaler 180 DAUNTLESS] is fitted with a [made in 2013 Mercury] OptiMax 150 [ProXs], which [I] don't think is too heavy. What concerned me was the line of the anti-fo...

180 Dauntless In Following Seas

I came across a 1998 180 DAUNTLESS. Because it has antifouling paint, I noticed that at the stern the waterline mark seems to show that the boat has very little freeboard. How good is a 18-foot DAUNTLESS in following seas? Or even backing up to some small waves? [I] realize a DAUNTLESS is not a deep...

Re: Buying 150 SPORT that was used as a tender

[T]he 150 is a fair distance away. [I] was just trying to find possible problems before looking at it. [I] did notice that the 50-footer would probably make 10-nautical-miles-per-hour at best. Also, the tender would be in the water for a few months at a time. [I]t does have a trailer, so [I] guess i...

Buying 150 SPORT that was used as a tender

[A] 2004 [Boston Whaler] 150 [SPORT] has come up for sale with a three-year-old replacement outboard engine with very low hours. This [boat] has been a tender for a 50-footer, but, as it was a bit heavy to be carried on the stern, it was towed behind on most cruises. [The hull bottom has] anti-fouli...

Re: 1983 Outrage 18 Faults Specific to Model.

Looking at the price of similar [Boston Whaler OUTRAGE 18 boats] here, most with old motors are fairly cheap. According to what i've seen the value is less than half of the advertised price of $18,000. Sentimental value is one thing to mention. The person selling [the 1983 OUTRAGE 18] mentioned it i...

1983 Outrage 18 Faults Specific to Model

Are there some [well-known or common] faults with [a c.1983 Boston Whaler OUTRAGE 18 boat] I should be looking for when buying one? For example, [is there a well-known or common fault with the] fuel tank? I don't want to buy a boat that is too much a project. I would like occasionally to use the an ...

Re: The 15-footer

jimh,Australian dollars ,which is nearly the same rate as the Canadian $,a reason why i was looking in Canada to buy a 15 was to save the 30 % difference in the us/au dollar, but the lack of the amount of boats for sale and distance from a shipping port in Canada might make that idea a lost cause.

Re: The 15-footer

Everybody--thanks for all the informative input. Dutchman--Ii mentioned a 150 because as Paul said the 15 is not that much bigger then a 13. But yours sounds ideal especially with the four-stroke-power-cycle outboard engine. Most boats here are re-powered with them or with an E-TEC. In fact a lot of...

Re: The 15-footer

JIMH--the 15-foot hull from the front actually looks very capable. The low freeboard-- especially at the stern--has taken a bit of getting used to. Most use aluminum boats, which are generally pretty hard riding and wet.

Re: The 15-footer

PAUL--I knew size would be a bit if a concern. I was looking at a low-budget creek boat--even though import costs are not in my favour--and, I guess, looking at the 150 model with their over six-foot-wide beam, I would have more internal volume, but--even though I have found the 13-foot hull to be s...

The 15-footer

I may buy a 15-foot Boston Whaler boat. I already have a SPORT 13, but [I] think another two feet would be a bonus. Plus, the hulls are different. I would like some opinions as to whether a 15-foot hull is much better than a 13-foot hull. Also, if the 15-foot hulls have any faults. They are very sca...
