Re: 150 MONTAUK v. 150 SUPER SPORT

Being able to stand supported at the helm has enough advantages that I would recommend the Montauk.

Oil deteriorates over time as well as hours. It is prudent to change it annually even if you put less than 100 hours.

Re: A 170 Montauk for South Florida Boating

My wife and I purchased a new 2017 Montauk 170 and have been more than happy with it. We are in our late 60s and it is our first (and likely last) powerboat. It is easy to trailer, launch, recover, and has been flawless. We knew an upgraded model was coming but chose this one for its 3" less dr...

Re: 2017 170 Montauk Compared to Newer Version

I bought a 2017 Montauk 170 last spring knowing that there were changes coming in 2018. It was a risk, but it turned out that we were glad we got a 2017 for a few reasons. The 2017 hull draws 9-inched while the 2018 draws 12-inched. The lesser draft may not be a big deal to some, but on the lakes we...

Re: Hull Cleaning

I appreciate the comments. My boat will likely sit in cooler fresh water for 5 months a years and sit on a trailer for 7 so I hadn't worried too much about blistering....but perhaps I should?

Re: Hull Cleaning

Thanks again. Great information, as always. Think I will try the white vinegar first then the Lysol. These stains are not major as this lake is pretty clean, but we are down in the channel near where the lake drains so do get some scum.

Re: Hull Cleaning

Thanks all. I am familiar wit the product On Off but couldn't use it without having the boat off the trailer...and don't know how I would do that. As for bottom paint, have never seen any on boats used in the lakes I'm on. In the ocean, for sure...used various kinds of antifouling pain on my past sa...

Re: Anchors used for the Montauk 170

We anchor frequently but not for long periods, in high wind, or in current. What we have is more than adequate. And yes, we have been greatly enjoying the boat. Use it weekly and are very satisfied with our choice.

Cannot actually remember where I heard about a refresh....it was awhile ago. My local dealer has 2018s on order with no mention of change. That said, very disappointed that someone on this forum would regard this topic as "stupid."

Re: Which 170

We are in our first season with a 2017 Montauk 170. Very pleased with it overall. Can get rough in higher waves and pound some so you need to slow down sometimes....I suspect the Dauntless would provide a smoother ride. But the lower cost of the Montauk sealed it for us and we have no regrets. For t...

We have been keeping our boat in a slip on a lake and are getting some significant waterline stains as a result. Am wondering what hull cleaning products folks can recommend that will not harm the galvanized trailer. Thanks.

Re: New Whaler 170 Montauk

We have been out 3 times so far in our new boat and are very pleased with her. Twice on Spofford Lake and once on Lake Sunapee. Boat is very well built and easy to handle. I would not expect a particularly smooth ride in high waves and rough conditions but the boat can take it, probably better than ...

Re: Anchors used for the Montauk 170

I took delivery of our Montauk 170 about three weeks ago. How surprised we were to find a 9-lbs Danforth and 50-feet of rode in the locker along with two fenders, a throw cushion, a paddle, and three dock lines. This was gear we didn't know we were getting. Part of some kind of Boston Whaler promoti...

Anchor locker liner

While taking delivery of our new Montauk 170 last week the dealer suggested that we put some kind of pad or liner in the anchor locker to keep the anchor from chipping the gel coat there. I'm seeking information on how other owners have addressed this. Many thanks.

Thanks all. Great info. Not hearing much about the Mill cover--maybe [due to its] cost. The Carver [cover] seems to be well thought of. Waiting for some information about the Fisher [cover]. 170 Montauk Cover

I have been researching covers for my new 170 MONTAUK boat. I would love some opinions from folks here. The Mills product looks great but is $1,100 now with the discount; Carver is $700; and National Boat Covers in CA IS $500. Any thoughts and experiences appreciated.

Re: Ready to purchase a new Montauk 150 and need opinions

My wife and I (ages 63 and 65) had planned to purchase a new Montauk 150 after seeing another couple our age using one on Lake Sunapee in New Hampshire. But when we went shopping and compared the 150 side by side with the 170 in a showroom the decision was easy to spend the extra for the 170. Still ...

Anchors used for the Montauk 170

Would Montauk 170 owners would be willing to share what they use for anchors and rodes? I will be boating on inland lakes and anchoring primarily for fishing and swimming. I have a lot of experience with anchors and rodes on sailboats used on the ocean but haven't yet purchased these for my new 170 ...

Haven't heard anything but decided I don't really care. Bought a 2017 Montauk 170. I am 65 and retiring soon so don't want to wait for next year. Don't know what they could do to improve it much anyway....I really like it as it is. Maybe something like internal fuel tanks which I don't care about.

Blue graphics, fishing package, bow cushion, console and pilot seat covers, hydraulic steering. Package comes with galvanized trailer and 90 HP Mercury EFI 4 stroke. Decent deal I guess. New Whaler 170 Montauk

Retail Prices for New Boston Whaler Boats

I may sound like an idiot here but need some advice. When purchasing a new car, one can usually buy it at a substantial discount from MSRP. Does the same situation apply to buying new boats? I bought a 2015 F-150 that stickered for $46,000 and drove it out the door for $39,000. Are new boats, specif...

Flymo--thanks for the input. I did look around a bit for good used ones. They hold their value so well that the prices are very high, and most have older motors and trailers. For what it's worth, my dealer just took delivery of 2 new 2017 Montauk 170s and they have not changed yet.
