Re: The Buying Experience of a New 170 MONTAUK

In 2017 I bought a new 170 MONTAUK, and the experience was excellent. I knew what I wanted and went to chat with a dealer in the Fall. The dealer told me I would get the best price at a boat show, but still took me out for a test drive. I waited until the Winter boat shows, called the dealer, and go...

Re: A 170 Montauk for South Florida Boating

My wife and I purchased a new 2017 Montauk 170 and have been more than happy with it. We are in our late 60s and it is our first (and likely last) powerboat. It is easy to trailer, launch, recover, and has been flawless. We knew an upgraded model was coming but chose this one for its 3" less dr...

Re: 2017 170 Montauk Compared to Newer Version

I bought a 2017 Montauk 170 last spring knowing that there were changes coming in 2018. It was a risk, but it turned out that we were glad we got a 2017 for a few reasons. The 2017 hull draws 9-inched while the 2018 draws 12-inched. The lesser draft may not be a big deal to some, but on the lakes we...

I appreciate the comments. My boat will likely sit in cooler fresh water for 5 months a years and sit on a trailer for 7 so I hadn't worried too much about blistering....but perhaps I should?

Re: Hull Cleaning

Thanks again. Great information, as always. Think I will try the white vinegar first then the Lysol. These stains are not major as this lake is pretty clean, but we are down in the channel near where the lake drains so do get some scum.

We anchor frequently but not for long periods, in high wind, or in current. What we have is more than adequate. And yes, we have been greatly enjoying the boat. Use it weekly and are very satisfied with our choice.

We are in our first season with a 2017 Montauk 170. Very pleased with it overall. Can get rough in higher waves and pound some so you need to slow down sometimes....I suspect the Dauntless would provide a smoother ride. But the lower cost of the Montauk sealed it for us and we have no regrets. For t...

We have been out 3 times so far in our new boat and are very pleased with her. Twice on Spofford Lake and once on Lake Sunapee. Boat is very well built and easy to handle. While taking delivery of our new Montauk 170 last week the dealer suggested that we put some kind of pad or liner in the anchor locker to keep the anchor from chipping the gel coat there. I'm seeking information on how other owners have addressed this. Many thanks.

I have been researching covers for my new 170 MONTAUK boat. I would love some opinions from folks here. The Mills product looks great but is $1,100 now with the discount; Carver is $700; and National Boat Covers in CA IS $500. Any thoughts and experiences appreciated.
