Re: c.1970 13-footer Winter Project

I used the Wet Edge. Easy to use. Thin it and spray.

Re: c.1970 13-footer Winter Project

I used the Key West Sand and got it right from Amazon. Used just under two gallons for the inside. To apply I bought a cheap drywall mud hopper gun from harbor freight with the smallest orifice nozzle and played with pressure. Followed the instructions from Tuff Coat. Outside was done with Total Boa...

Re: 1968 SPORT 13 Rub Rail Replacement

I went with #10 pan head screws on mine. Tried a couple with #12's, but it showed too much when you put the insert in. I was able to do the complete install by myself, but if you have a helper, it will definitely go smoother. I used the quick clamps and did a small section at a time as I worked my w...

Re: c.1970 13-footer Winter Project

ZIE'--your restored 13 looks great. Thanks for the additional details on your methods. And that older Mercury engine looks very appropriate for the boat and its 1970's vintage. Thanks Jim! The motor was with the boat when I bought it, and it appears to be the original motor as it's also a 1970. Can...

Re: c.1970 13-footer Winter Project

In my previous post to MET, I wanted to show the location of where the stencil would be on MET's boat since [MET's boat] appears to close to the same year as mine. And then provide a little motivation.

Re: Determining age of 13-foot hulls by stencil number

ZEIMER--since your very nicely restored 13-footer has the original STENCIL NUMBER (2A2417) preserved, you can know its date of manufacture with more precision by using the table of Stencil Numbers in the REFERENCE section article on 13-foot hulls. According to that table, your boat was manufactured...

Restored SPORT 13

MET--I have a 1970 13-footer that I'm finishing now. I picked up this boat last September. Perhaps this will be some inspiration. Plan on double to work and double the costs of your initial estimates.

Re: Awlgrip fairing compound

Yeah, I'm with ya on the rain. Not the normal afternoon 20 min rain storms. Haha. I didn't use Awlgrip, but I used the Total Boat Fairing on my 13 and was very happy with the results and ease of workability, sanding, etc. comes in two parts that is mixed 1:1 and has about a 20 min work time. The Tot...

Re: 2001 Optimax 225

There are diaphragms in the fuel rail that are prone to go bad on the Opti's. There are a few people that can rebuild them but direct from Mercury you have to replace the entire rail. Do a google search on Optimax Fuel Rail Diaphragm.

Sanding Transom Well - 13' Whaler

Any tips on sanding the tight interior areas of the splash wells on a classic 13'? Using a 5" orbital everywhere else. Thanks!

Re: 1967 Mercury 35-HP Starter Bracket Disassembly

I've got a 1970 - 40 hp, and it's a similar setup. I pulled the powerhead, and I'm almost certain that's the only way it would come out. There were 2 bolts that attach to the top of the starter.

Re: Re-do SPORT 13

Thanks! I'm hitting it a little harder. The primer didn't lay down as fly as I would have liked. I also have a few spots I need to add some filler to. I'll get it sanded, filled and prime one more time. Gonna thin the last coat down a little more.

Re: Re-do SPORT 13

Looks great! Did you use the Total Boat paint for everything?

For gauges, I'm looking at doing a tach and water pressure. I found the Kronos series from Faria and they have a nice classic look to them.

Re: Re-do SPORT 13

Any updates? Working on mine now. Have a few spots to ground out some crazing, but will be ready to fair and prime soon.
