Re: 90-HP Engine Falls Flat at Full Throttle

Is this phenomenon reproducible after sitting a while? Seems to happen very quickly to be generating a vacuum in the tank. Another source of fuel line restriction to consider is deteriorating and sloughing hose lining due to ethanol-induced damage. What is the hose vintage? Check the fuel filter for...

c.1970 SAKONNET, E-TEC 90

I'm re-powering a 1970 Sakonnet with a 2007 E-TEC 90-HP from a Bearcat 55. I anticipate a big difference. The boat will used primarily for family cruising and to pull water skiers and tubes. I am rather unfamiliar with the E-TEC at this point. Any propeller suggestions?

Re: 1976 Johnson 70-HP Workhorse Giving Me Fits

What is the condition of the exhaust manifold and its seal where it enters the leg? If its leaking, the hood fills with exhaust and yields these symptoms.

Re: 1976 Johnson 70-HP Workhorse Giving Me Fits

I'm not familiar with this engine and I haven't followed this thread, but as I read it, it sure sounded like the coil was a problem, and that seems to be confirmed but it also sounds like there is still another problem. I haven't heard any mention of the fuel filter. Is there an inline filter, and w...

Re: FLIR ONE $250 Camera for Engine Diagnosis

These are neat images that may help with the diagnosis of certain problems as you suggest, although $250 is still a chunk of change.

Re: Show Us Your Whaler

This is my (dad's) 16-footer. It's a 1970 with a 1969 Bearcat, 1970 Gator trailer. Receipt just says 16-foot with reversible pilot seat. Dad built the forward deck using redwood and a neighbor's Sakonnet as a template. The boat was sold a few years back for a year to a guy in Virginia (thus the reg ...

Re: Isobutanol Marine Fuel

I should have made this clear: isobutanol is another type of alcohol, like ethanol, but with a slightly difference chemical structure. It has two additional carbon atoms and their associated hydrogen atoms.

Re: Isobutanol Marine Fuel

We need a chemist to comment here. In fact, water does dissolve into isobutanol at about 15 grams per Liter of isobutanol, or 15 grams of water per 800 grams of isobutanol (see http://msdssearch.dow.com/PublishedLiteratureDOWCOM/dh_08ac/0901b803808aca66.pdf?filepath=oxysolvents/pdfs/noreg/327-00015....
