Primer Paint for Outboard Lower Unit
I am going to re-paint my 2001 Johnson OceanPro 90-HP outboard lower unit. The paint has faded. I have the Moeller paint specifically for the Johnson-Evinrude white for the year of my motor. What primer to use? Self-etching? 2K epoxy? Or both? In reading various articles on the internet, it appears ...

Paint Color Codes for Johnson Outboards
I have a 2001 Johnson 90 HP Ocean Pro that is white in color. It is faded and I want to repaint. Anyone know whether there is a paint code as part of the serial number? If not, is there another way to identify?

Re: Montauk 17 Cover Options
I just purchased a new cover for my 1986 Montauk 17' three months ago. It is a Carver, ( manufactured in South Carolina ). It is their Sun Dura fabric, which is a solution dyed, 7oz. fabric. The cover can be ordered specifically to fit classic Boston Whaler Montauk 17, either with without bow and si...

Nylon or Plastic Bushings for Windshield
Hi all. The new windshield for my 1986 Montauk 17 arrived last week from UPD via Twin Cities Marine. I also ordered from Twin Cities the windshield installation kit supplied by Boston Whaler. While the kit contains the well nuts, finish washers, and screws, it does not contain the nylon or plastic b...

Windshield for Classic (1986) Montauk
Hi all, Back in June I ordered a windshield for my 1986 Montauk through Sue at Twin Cities Marine. She was quoted a six-week delivery of the windshield which was to be drop shipped to me. It is now September 15, and I have yet to receive the windshield. Sue has been more than helpful in trying to pi...

Re: 2001 Johnson Outboard Model Designation
Thanks, Jim!
The outboard in question is indeed white. What can be determined by the "production code" suffix that couldn't / wouldn't be differentiated via serial number?

Re: c.1986 MONTAUK Instrument Panel Black Aluminum Plates
Jim,
Thanks for the advice on drilling the new plates. I certainly don't want to hack up a $45panel!!
I never said you were/are a jerk! I'll reserve that designation for later after more correspondence!! You may want to use it for me!!
Thanks for your response!

Re: c.1986 MONTAUK Instrument Panel Black Aluminum Plates
Since my search returned 0 results, I must have not searched correctly. Per Sue yesterday at Twin Cities, the panels are $45, and they are by the OEM supplier, whatever that means. The gauge configuration is changing on this boat and for that reason refurbishing of the existing ones isn't an option....

Re: c.1986 MONTAUK Instrument Panel Black Aluminum Plates
You'll have to forgive me Jim. My search was titled simply "aluminum instrument panel" and it came back with 0 results. Actually, the panels are readily available at Twin Cities Marine as I learned when I called yesterday to see if they knew where to find them. The panels are a stock item ...

2001 Johnson Outboard Model Designation
Gentlemen--I have just purchased a 1986 Montauk 17 that has a 2001 Johnson J90VLSIG two-stroke 90-HP outboard. I have looked at every site that I know to try to find the model designation code for this engine. I know what the nomenclature is except for the "V" after 90, and the "G&quo...

Re: MONTAUK Maximum Engine Weight
I greatly appreciate the responses to my query. Unfortunately, what was listed as a "beautiful Boston Whaler", turned out to be anything but. The 2015 Yamaha f90 and the 2015 aluminum trailer were the highlight. The 1988 Montauk itself was an entirely different story. The floor had severe ...

MONTAUK Maximum Engine Weight
Is a Yamaha F90 four-stroke-cycle engine that weighs 341-lbs too heavy for a 1987 Montauk 17? I see some old threads that say the maximum weight for the transom is 419-lbs. And another thread that show data less than that. I have an opportunity to get this boat at a really good price, but I want to ...
