Re: Recommend Fuel Tank Tester; Finding Source of Water in Fuel
If it were my boat, I would just replace the tank. At 30 years old, it's definitely at life's end, probably not worth the effort to confirm that a hole is present.

Re: Recommend Fuel Tank Tester; Finding Source of Water in Fuel
If the hoses are newer and the tank gage gasket isn't leaking, then you probably have a pinhole in the bottom of the tank. When I had my tank replaced, the outside of the tank was in pristine condition, no corrosion at all. There was a tiny pinhole in the bottom rear center of the tank near the fuel...

He's referring to Loctite marine epoxy, available from Home Depot. I use it to patch old screw holes. It's not a perfect match, but it's reasonably close enough that it doesn't stand out like a sore thumb. It can be used underwater and takes about 2 hours to set up. I would think 3/4-inch-thick sheet KING StarBoard would be plenty stiff for a steering console. If need be, you could use mahogany in the inside corners to give it some additional resistance to flexing, but for a small SPORt 13 console I don't think it would be necessary. If this hull and layout is the same as a 1992 21 Walkaround (which I believe were made from 1992-1994) the 630-lbs is definitely too much weight. The Permatrim works exactly the same as a Doelfin and any other fin that you bolt to the lower unit. As someone else said, if you need more trim, your trim tabs are probably undersized. I would go with trim tabs over the fin if cost isn't a problem. They also let you adjust the trim for uneven loading. I'd go with the biggest that the boat will accept, probably 12 x 12. Personally, I wouldn't own a boat without trim tabs. If I were to use a fin, I believe there are some brands that...
