Re: 2007 170 MONTAUK: Rub Rail Sealant

While the local hardware stores did not have it, fortunately the local Whaler dealer was able to order it. $25 a tube compared to $15 plus shipping online, but the local dealer assured me it will be in my hands tomorrow.

Re: 2007 170 MONTAUK: Rub Rail Sealant

Reply from Whaler:

Boston Whaler uses a black RTV Silicone Sealant from a company called Star Brite Distributing. Their vendor part# for this is 82123. If ordering through a Boston Whaler dealer, the Whaler part# for this is 1039767.

2007 170 MONTAUK: Rub Rail Sealant

Hi all. [The rub rail on my 2007 170 MONTAUK] looks like the factory put something [a sealant] there. What sealant would be recommended to repair [the gaps between the hull and the rub rail on a 2007 Boston Whaler 170 MONTAUK]? 1543156169800671.jpg 1543156169373717.jpg 1543156168706960.jpg I found t...

Re: Tachometer Readings Intermittent on Mercury FOURSTROKE

Afternoon Jim, my apologies if I misinterpreted or misquoted your prior post. Updating the thread with the solution, I just got the call from my mechanic - boat will need a new tachometer. 1 hour of labor, and part is under $100 from Mercury.

Re: Tachometer Readings Intermittent on Mercury FOURSTROKE

Jim, Thanks. In researching this concern, I noticed you recommended a possible fix by rotating the rotary selector switch and in many cases it fixed it. I did try that when cleaning/checking the connections, no luck. I was hoping it was that easy. The next step seems to be testing that gray wire. Fi...

Tachometer Readings Intermittent on Mercury FOURSTROKE

On my 2006 Mercury 90 HP EFI FourStroke engine (with 375 hours of running time) the tachometer gauge is the standard analog, non-Smartcraft gauge. The last time running the boat, I noticed the tachometer reading would drop from say 2,500-RPM down to 1,000-RPM, then back up to the 2,500-RPM.. The eng...

Keeping Dashboard Panel and Gauges Watertight

I was screwing the dash panel back onto the console and noticed there are tiny spaces between the dash panel and the console that don't look entirely water tight. There seems to be a backing of some sort between the dash panel and the console itself. Q1: What can I use to seal-up that area? console....

Cleaning Non-skid

Hi all. There are two areas on on my boat non-skid that I want to really clean. One area is chewing gum: my toddler got some on his shoe at the boat ramp. The second area is a Bonita blood stain: we were fileting Bonita to use as strip bait and I must not have gotten to that spot quickly enough. I u...

How to correctly install a gaff holder? Montauk 170

Hi all, I have a 4 foot Gaff, with a 2 inch hook and need to mount it inside the boat. I'm picking up a gaff holder from Birdsall, this comes with two # 10 x 1", Self Taping Screws included to mount. Anything I need to be aware of or any tips before drilling these in? http://www.marineproducts....

Re: 2007 Montauk 170--routing SONAR transducer cable

Phil and Jim, thank you. Yes, I agree and would much prefer to not drill any holes, especially ones all the way through the transom. We're on the same page, I will route it over the transom. Jim, thanks for the link to the 6 circuit fuse block with negative bus bar and Phil, thanks for the link to t...

2007 Montauk 170--routing SONAR transducer cable

Hi all, Per the Boston Whaler manual for a 170 MONtAUK, it appears the factory wants you to drill a hole in the transom, then route the transom mount transducer cable through that hole you drilled, into the chase pipe and ultimately into the console. The plug end on this Totalscan transducer is all ...

Re: Connecting a Mercury 2007 90 4 Stroke EFI to Lowrance Elite 9 TI

Great advice, thanks Jim. Circled back with Mercury, and they added that Boston Whaler uses the Mercury harness. This means, even though my boat does not have a Smartcraft gauge there should be a plug under my dash that has a weather cover, and a purple plug under that weather cover. IF that plug is...

Re: Connecting a Mercury 2007 90 4 Stroke EFI to Lowrance Elite 9 TI

Thanks Jim! Also, I got this reply back from Mercury this morning To interface your 90-horsepower 4-stroke with your NMEA 2000 compatible device, you will need a NMEA 2000 Gateway kit (part #8m0105243), and a NMEA 2000 starter kit (part #8m0107522). The NMEA 2000 Gateway Kit can be found for about $...

Connecting a Mercury to Lowrance Elite 9 TI

Hi, the goal is to get the engine data from my 2007 Mercury FOURSTROKE serial #1b419565 to the Lowrance Elite 9 TI Chartplotter. The boat does not have a Smartcraft gauge. All the gauges on the boat are analog. To get NMEA2000 out of that engine, I think we would need the VesselView single engine ki...

Thanks for the Amazon link! I was very, very tempted by it, the quote I had last year was $650 for that same setup... having a hard time spending $100 more 5 months later for the same thing.

Thanks Ridge Runner for the pic showing the HDS5. It's funny you say that about the HDS7 Gen 3, it's exactly what I was hoping to get end of last year but I wasn't ready to buy at the time and now all the distributors I've talked to said they can't get a unit from Lowrance anymore. Re: Chartplotter for 170 Montauk

Jefe, you make a great point. I'll have to pay close attention to any interference between a 9" console mounted chartplotter and the compass. On this Montauk 170, it's one of 4 from the mold in that year (2007) that had pads put in for a T-top from the factory. Birdsall Marine fabricated a t-to...

Thank you for the tips on placement. Jim, the boat is fished around the South Florida area, sometmes we will trailer it down to the Keys or over to Boca Grande. Hi all. Is there a certain chartplotter (with fish finder) unit or size and location that you've found works well on a 170 Montauk?
