Re: Newport 17 transom replacement

I have [used] an epoxy transom replacement product [called SEACAST] on two different boats and have been very satisfied with the results. The cost was $300 to $400 and [the repair] was very easy to to do. Essentially, you remove the transom cap, core out the old plywood with a chain saw, prepare the...

It’s a stage of breakdown . I have had the exact same condition on two different motors, a 1983 MERCURY 50 HP and a 1988 EVINRUDE 88 SPL.

In both cases there is really no option other than replacement

Re: Re-power NAUSET 16: Yamaha 90 or E-TEC 90

I owned [a NAUSET 16] and always felt it could use a lighter engine than the Evinrude 88 SPL I had on it.

Since [Soho] knows the Yamaha and it has run well on the setup, I recommend [Soho] purchase the same engine and re-use the controls and propeller.

I own a 1982 SPORT 15 that came with a 1982 Mercury 50-HP four-cylinder two-stroke engine. The performance was very much in agreement with what has been reported on this site. Recently i was able to change to a 1990 Mercury 60-HP three-cylinder two-stroke engine, and I have been very happy with the ...

i cannot help but wonder if this evidence of plastic sheeting is present in other areas of that hull. I would be very concerned that the "repair" performed was to address only the visible section and not investigate more fully to see if this is present elsewhere.

FS: Side Console from 15

For sale: a starboard-side console from a 15-foot hull. I bought it last year with the intention of installing it on my hull, but changed my mind. I don't know what year it is or what kind of model it was taken off. Pictures available.

$400--buyer pays shipping.

These are the first listings in the link referenced above. Formatting is awkward, but what it states is that 3 star CARB certified 2 stroke motors are not allowed. The E-TEC engine is a 3 star CARB engine, therefore I read that as a banned engine. They do not name the E-TEC engine by name. I do not ...

I dont want to derail the original subject, but here is a link to the state regulations.

There are local agencies that ban 1,2 and in some cases 3 star engines- I believe the E-TEC is a 3 star rated engine.

While I do agree that the "conventional wisdom" of using an aluminum propellor to avoid lower unit damage is without merit, I would like to add that in the case of a 60 hp motor on a 15 ft hull, I do not believe a stainless steel propeller is warranted. It's my experience that aluminum wil...

Egads--a SPORT 15 with 90-HP is a rocket ship. Be careful.
