Re: 170 DAUNTLESS Stern Cleats for Trailer Tie-down
Hi Scott. The rollers are soft, larger, and like an air tire, without having the inconvenience of them getting too soft over time. The trailer has a sufficient amount—28 rollers—I don't worry about that. The trailer supports the boat really well. I think you are right when talking about small hard p...

Re: 170 DAUNTLESS Stern Cleats for Trailer Tie-down
I decided to give the tie-down loops in the transom a try after all, and I think I am happy the way it comes out. Learned that you have to drill very low RPM in stainless steel, burned some drill-bits :) (it is a stainless steel trailer) I also trailer my boats 100% of the times I go out with them. ...

170 DAUNTLESS Stern Cleats for Trailer Tie-down
Will [the stern cleats of a 170 DAUNTLESS] be strong enough to tie the boat onto the trailer? I would like to use a boat buckle on each side. Normally I would have used the two tie-down loops in the transom, but the boat is sticking out too far to reach them. What I do now is a large strap that I ti...

Re: Refurbish Deck Caulking
I just got an OUTRAGE 18...My first project ...re-sealing the deck. I just finished replacing the caulking on my boat. I think it is important that you will use an UV resistant caulking, (SIKAFLEX 295 UV in white), I have not used any primer so it can be taken out later in case I have to replace it...

Re: Dauntless 200; Adding Trolling Motor
I am curious how you would pull the wires through the hull .
You might want to look into a way of pulling the wires throught the front navigation light channel.
How Phil discribes how to wire the motor is how I do it and it works fine btw

Re: 170 Dauntless: Baystar steering is heavy
Hi jefecinco, [The mechanic] checked [the fluid level in the hydraulic steering helm pump] when the dealer serviced the engine and boat last time, I specifically asked them to do that, and they gave me the feedback that it is all good. Also, I took out the boat today and set the engine trim tab from...

Re: 170 Dauntless: Baystar steering is heavy
I have to re-adjust the trimtab.
It was turned all the way to the left while the boat steering pulls to the right.
I think I can manage this, thanks for the advise !

Re: 170 Dauntless: Baystar steering is heavy
Thanks for the clearing it out.
The trim tab on the motor is something I will look into.
The steering actually seems to be loosing up a bit more with the new grease and some more "dry wheeling" !

Re: 170 Dauntless: Baystar steering is heavy
By the way, I only experience the prop vetilation when I try to get on plane and the motor is trimmed out quite a bit, this only happens when I am kind of "playing" with the power trim to see where the boundaries are and how the steering reacts. I don't experience the vetilation when I am ...

Re: 170 Dauntless: Baystar steering is heavy
First, thank you for your replies and thinking with me ! I have the boat on the trailer and have pumped more grease into the grease nipple yesterday, also put some grease with my finger on another rotation point of the steering system.. I pumped until the older grease was coming out and that did loo...

170 Dauntless: Baystar steering is heavy
I have a 2014, 170 Dauntless with Mercury 100, four-blade stainless steel propeller, and Baystar hydraulic steering. I find the steering to [require] heavy [effort]. I have to use quite a bit of force to steer. I need more force to steer one way than the other--which I assume is caused by the propel...

Re: 170 DAUNTLESS, 100-HP; Propeller
Thanks for your insight in this. I try to figure out how the boat performs compared to what I am used to. I have had quite a few boats in the past--all aluminum and with Yamaha's. What I notice is that the mentioned F70 Yamaha performs better in the high RPM--what I mean is that you get a lot more s...

170 DAUNTLESS, 100-HP; Propeller
I recently bought a used 2014 Boston Whaler 170 Dauntless with a Mercury 100-HP four-stroke-power-cycle engine. The engine is very big in size compared to the Yamaha F70 on my other boat. The Mercury 100-HP carries a TROPHYplus four-blade stainless steel propeller with 17-pitch. Acceleration is very...

Re: 2016 Dauntless 170 Trolling Motor
Hi Marc or MtRotman, Do you happen to have any pictures of how your bow mount trolling motor has been installed ? I am trying to learn more about installing a front troller. From what I have seen so far the boats that have a trolling motor panel have a reineforced area for installing one.. does anyo...

Thanks for the additional info, I asked my friend where he got his info from, and it was something he found on the internet, so I guess not very plausible info. He has a new tank build custom by a professional aluminum welder 2.5 mm .. I agree with you Jim, to not to worry too much about a one perso...

Re: 2013 Dauntless 170 Fuel Tank
Hi Jim--when do you think Boston Whaler started building-in plastic fuel tanks ? My friend's boat (with the aluminum fuel tank) is a c.1980 REVENGE 20. I would also like to hear more about the claimed chemical reaction with chloride. I was hoping to hear more on this forum about that. I will ask my ...

2013 Dauntless 170 Fuel Tank
What material is used by Boston Whaler for the fuel tank in a 2013 170 DAUNTLESS? Is the fuel tank made of aluminum or stainless steel? A friend needed to replace an aluminum fuel tank in an old Boston Whaler due to--from what I have been told--the aluminum reacting with chloride in the foam around ...

Re: 170 Montauk Console Rod Holders
I had CABELA brand plastic rod holders in black, three on a bracket. They can also be installed individualy, because they are not molded on the frame--a least the one I had. [Ask CABELA'S] on their live chat, [CABELA'S] are very helpful. As you can see you can also buy [individually]. I had [CABELA'...

170 Montauk Trolling Motor Wiring via Navigation Lamp Conduit
Hello there. My location is The Netherlands. I am looking at possibly buying a Montauk 170, new or second hand. The boat is for fishing, and I will use my Ulterra Riptide 80-lbs thrust trolling motor that I also use on my other boat. I can imagine that when I buy second hand there will be no trollin...
