Re: Removing Varnish Stains From Nonskid Surface.

I gave the Franmar Soy-Strip Marine Coating Remover a try. It is colorless, odorless, and about the consistency of 80 weight gear oil. First I dabbed a bit on a small spot with my finger. It didn't cause any burning or discomfort to my finger, and I washed it off my finger after a couple minutes. I ...

I will try it on a small, inconspicuous area, and report on the outcome. It might be a couple weeks until I can do it.

Removing Varnish Stains From Nonskid Surface.

I have a 1983 Sport 15. The gel coat is in good condition except for some spots where a previous owner did a sloppy job of refinishing the wood surfaces and dripped spar varnish on the deck. Q1: how I can remove the stains without damaging the non-skid gel coat? Q2: how can i repaint the non-skid? Q...

I have a 1983 Sport 15 with a 2019 60 HP Tohatsu 4 stroke and 14" pitch, 3 blade propeller, and a hydraulic jack plate with 6" setback. With a fairly heavy load it will run top end of 36 MPH (GPS). That motor weighs 216 lbs. which is quite light for a 4 stroke. It has a very good hole shot...

Re: Cotter Pins--all you wanted to know about them

The FAA recognizes one preferred method of installing cotter pins as covered here. There are some optional methods when space does not allow for the preferred method and those optional methods can be found in AC43.13-1. First and foremost the cotter pin must be of the correct size. If not called out...

Look at a Mantus anchor. They are well made and hold really well.

I have their smallest 2.5-lbs galvanized model. It holds my Sport 15 even in strong wind and current.

They have a good selection.

I believe Texas is one of the six states that requires the outboard engine have a title. I think states that require a title on an outboard could have two motives: ⋅ generate income for the state with the title fee; ⋅ protect the legitimate owner in case of theft. I suspect both...
