What is the size of your garage? A trailered 17-foot boat has a LOA of 21-feet.

Personally, the Outrage 17 I or II would be my choice. It is the best-handling 17-foot model.

My rational - Many classic Boston Whaler models and CPD and BCPD have a waterline above the transom thru-hull drains at rest. Helping offset this is worth the work. Moving the batteries to the console is a good idea. The weight distribution change will be beneficial. You should use 4-AWG marine battery wire. Determine the weight differential between the current engine and the 115 hp motor and add it to the stern. Drive the boat around.

While I doubt [a Mercury 115 FOURSTROKE engine weight of 360-lbs] will be a problem; many owners installed Honda BF90 engines in the 2000's that weighed 379-lbs.

Reconsider.

Adding RADAR will require a tall mast or radar arch (at a cost of $2,000 to$3,000), special mounting techniques, and upgrading the electrical system.

Decent brands include Garmin, Furuno, Simrad and Lowrance. Avoid Raymarine, as it is expensive.
