FS 1965 16' 7" hull $1,250 in Wisconsin

For-sale: a 1965 16-foot hull for $1,250 near Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This item is the hull only but with a trailer with new tires. This 1965 16-foot hull is solid. The hull needs a terrible paint job sanded off. There are no chrome or wood components. This is a project boat at a starting point. CONTA...

Re: Open or Closed Cell Foam in c.1979 Boat

Another factor may be the "perm rating" or the amount of moisture that gets through or into the material. I have been told Boston Whaler foam is and always has been closed cell which should have a very high "perm rating" but the foam still holds water like a sponge if subjected t...

I sold one with a similar description for $7,800 with the primary difference a complete new paint job and rub rail. One could argue I hurt the value with the paint vs. original gel coat. I have another one of similar description but a 1970 model year that I would gladly sell for $5,000. The 1970 nee...

Re: 2008 Montauk 170 Transom Support Using "transom saver device"

Perhaps the recomendation for an extra motor support is not because the transom is too weak or the motor hydraulic ram is too weak but everyone is covering their you-know-what if their own product fails. It's the world we live in. I have been trailering outboards without the "belt and suspender...

Re: 1970 NAUSET Gel Coat Repair

Jim knows best and I agree with him.. Your pictures show very minimal damage that would leak, through foam, etc. Plugs are probably loose. Seal fabric that is exposed with epoxy. The boats I have repaired have significant visible cracks/damage1

Re: 1968 SPORT 13 Rub Rail Replacement

The boats I have purchased (13-15 foot, 1965-1973) have riveted rub rails that have failed. It is VERY easy to pull out the remaining rivets. I re-instal with #10 pan head and 5200 giving more grip than just the fiberglass.

Re: 1970 NAUSET Gel Coat Repair

I repaired a area [of two-square feet with] foam exposed on the bottom of a 13-footer using five layers of 6-ounce fiberglass cloth and epoxy resin. This seemed reasonable but excessive compared to Whaler's guide for structural repairs of "at least two layers" of 2 oz cloth. Why not make i...

Re: Banged up gelcoat

I have completed two total restorations, 1966 and a 1975, both with all kinds of different fiberglass or gel coat damage. If only the gel coat is damaged you can sand off the gel coat to expose smooth and solid fiberglass and repaint or re gel coat. If the fiberglass is broken water can get into the...

MY 1992 MARINER 75 HP had a continuous BEEEEEEEEEP that was an oil sensor problem even though the common belief is that a continuous BEEEEEEEEP is identifying a temp problem. It was definitely a sensor and not the alarm itself. Motor was still smoking normally during the very short run time during a...

I accurately weighed the bare hull of my 1966 Nauset (hull 35190) and found it to be 700-lbs or 200-lbs pounds over specification. The boat floats high.
