Re: 1986 Outrage Classic 18 foot - engine height

Where are you seeing the transom height of an OUTRAGE 18 specified as 26.1-inches? I am not seeing that concerning the Outrage 18. Transom height is the nomenclature Honda used to denote shaft length. Honda BF130 Owners Manual has the specs. for the actual length of the L & X shafts. X shaft le...

Re: 1986 Outrage Classic 18 foot - engine height

It is mounted 1 hole up now and I can't see the anti-ventilation plate at all when on plane.

I would mount at max height since OM specs indicate transom height is 26.1". Should be the two holes up Marko888 recommended.

Re: Trailer Spindle

I would clean up the spindles and check for significant pitting of sealing surface. Make a judgement call and if decision is to go for it as is keep a closer eye on the wheels and evidence of grease leaking out. New hubs/bearings unlikely to be damaged and the extra seals would be on hand if axle re...

Apparently there [are] federal regs that the manufacturers use to derive the rating differences for tiller steer versus remote steering.

Re: Using Crouch's Formula to Predict Waterlogged Hull

hull factor of 180 Good factor for me when used for a 18 Outrage. Hull factor not much of a wild card. I was wondering if it might be possible to predict water in a hull based on this formula and solving for weight There are too many other ways to easily/economically check weight and compare agains...

Re: 2001 16 DAUNTLESS: Sell or Re-power

the boat stays on a mooring in Boston Harbor Bottom paint will reduce your WOT speed some but not down to what you reported. What's your RPM at WOT? If not near recommended it would indicate rigging or engine problems. Others are reporting 40+ speeds with 115hp and I would think you should be in at...

however can be a bit of a dog... tops out currently at 26-27 with a full tank and myself
Before spending a fortune to repower I'd recommend looking at changing your engine mounting height and prop. The speeds you're reporting don't match the boat/power and it should be in the 30s.

Indeed they're a rather rude bunch to dump on so many individuals and communities. May they soon crater.

jimh, Thanks for the good info on the deep splash well and explaining that/why the drain will be under water. The photo you added does show the type of lift bracket. A wooden pad will be added to the lift bracket(s) to hang and clamp the motor. The pad will be on the forward face of the lift bracket...

Re: 13-footer, 30-HP; Propeller Ventilates

How many increments of 0.75-inch--the hole spacing--is the engine mounted above the lowest position? Most small tiller steer OBs have clamp on brackets and basically only have one mounting height. They do not use the typical four hole mounting that allows for easy adjustment. It does sound like the...

13' Engine Mounting Height Recommendation - 25hp

I'm selling my 25hp 4-stoke Yamaha long shaft to a friend with an older 13' with a 15" transom. His Whaler already has a two piece lift bracket installed similar to the one linked below. http://continuouswave.com/whaler/cetacea/cetaceaPage56.html http://continuouswave.com/whaler/cetacea/images/...

O-ring may be and certainly appears to be 22 but since seal 19 is not included it would wise not to disassemble that side. If already apart I'd want to replace 19 too. Their note also says you'll have parts left over.

Re: New owner, old boat

The Hull Identification Number (HIN) takes three forms in the Boston Whaler boat: the stenciled serial number, the metal tag, the embossed number. Numbering of the hull was initially voluntary but after November 1972 became a Federal requirement. As suggested the format on the title is likely one o...

One thing to note about the rating and certification process is that with devices like mobile phones the IP tests are conducted under lab conditions while the phone is in standby mode, so there's a much greater chance it won't stand up as well if you attempt to take pictures underwater. And all rat...

what do you mean by "bow down" in rough seas? Generally you do want to keep your bow up in rough seas particularly when meeting waves head-on. One can usually be safe to lower the bow some when in a following sea and when you crest a following wave your stern is likely to ride a bit highe...
