Re: 1978 13-footer Hull Soft Spot

The lifting eye is about 8 inches in front of the soft spot, and yes the lifting eye is uphill of the soft spot, so water would flow down toward the soft spot from the lifting eye.

Re: 1978 13-footer Hull Soft Spot

Yes, my boat has a single lifting eye which attaches via a threaded rod through the hull to a towing eye on the exterior. Could a bad seal at the installation of the towing eye contribute to the problem that I am confronted with, as described in my original post? Does anyone else have advice as to t...

Re: 1978 Super Sport 13 Hull Soft Spot

I guess [the boat is] a SPORT 13; I am not sure. To know about the water leaving stains is good information. I'm not getting staining, so perhaps just air may beescaping through the crack. If so I'm a lot more comfortable doing [a repair using] the injection method. I didn't want to inject epoxy on ...

Re: 1978 Super Sport 13 Hull Soft Spot

I guess [my intended meaning was to refer to] the bow eye on the bow stem, the bronze eye Inside the hull that connects through the hull to the Stainless triangular eye on the exterior of the hull.

I do not have any lifting eye inside the hatch, other than the hold-down for the hatch.

1978 13-footer Hull Soft Spot

I've just discovered my 1978 SUPER SPORT 13 foredeck forward of the locker hatch is soft. I've notice a single crack about 1-cm [0.39-inch] long. When I step on [the soft spot] there is some hissing as if something—air or water—is escaping. [The soft spot] depresses maybe 1/4-inch [0.64-cm] when I s...

13-footer, Rotten Wood

I started the disassembly of my 1979 SPORT 13 for a refresh of the boat. I was planning on doing interior paint and mahogany refinishing or replacement, as needed. I started by unscrewing and removing the mahogany, and, to my great chagrin, as I pulled out the screws from the gunwales they came out ...

Re: Hydrofoil recommendation for 13

Great, thanks for the help. Sounds like both options are good.

So if I have this correct, the foil should be above the level of the water on plane?

Thanks,
Pete

Hydrofoil recommendation for 13

Hello all. I'm thinking of adding a hydrofoil to my [1979] SPORT 13 with a [1995] Mercury 40-HP two-stroke-power-cycle engine. Everything I've read so far on the forum makes it seem like a great addition, gives more stablilty and better on-plane performance. What brands of anti-ventilation plate foi...

Re: 1979 13' Renovation

That looks great! I'm curious to know what you used for the interior paint? I'm about to start work on my own '79 13 footer, it won't be as thorough a restoration as that, but I'm going to strip the interior and paint, and I'm curious what was used? I know akwalker used totalboat wet edge, what did ...

jimh--[Reference to well nuts] is on a Boston Whaler drawing:

Makes me think that was maybe the factory's method of mounting.

Re: Bimini top hardware/anchoring

Interesting, I like the idea of reaming some of the foam out before putting in epoxy. Did you add glass fibers or any other filler to your resin? Also, did you drill in with wood screws, or a finer-thread machine type screw? I'd be afraid the coarse thread of the wood screw may crack the dried epoxy.

Re: Bimini top hardware/anchoring

Any other ideas for direct mounting into the hull? I'd also like to know what is the best way to anchor other hardware into the hull? Some screws mounting my seat frames have pulled out a little bit, so I wanted to re-mount them with a solid base. I was planning to overdrill and place an epoxy plug ...

SPORT 13: Bimini Top Frame Anchor Point

Hello all. I'm about to be the proud owner of a 1983 SPORT 13. The first order of business for us is shade. I've searched the forum, and have found some great info on top brands, size, and configuration, but I was curious to get some guidance about the mounting of hardware into the gunwales themselv...
