Q4: do you have a bow railing.

Q5: did you have to modify [the bow railing]it?

Q6: are all iPilot-enabled models also auto-deploy?

Re: 170 MONTAUK Bow Trolling Motor and Rail Removal

WOW! Is that an auto-deploy model, like the iPilot? I'm guessing that the motor pushes out before it swings up?

Q2: [Is there a] video of it deploying like that?

Re: Boat Insurance

I just bought Geico Boat Insurance a month ago and it included towing coverage.

I thought it was pretty reasonable.

Re: 2016 Dauntless 170 Trolling Motor

Marc - would love to see pictures. I'm currently doing some research on [adding a trolling motor] and I want a minimalist install if possible. Running all the wiring under deck is great. I thought that couldn't happen if it didn't come from the factory with the trolling motor plug.

Re: Removable Trolling Motor Options

@drewread - I like your install and that would work beautifully, but my bow rail is much further to the outside of the bow. That makes it virtually impossible to have the install you did. That's a pretty clean install. Having the little girls, ideally I'd like to even take off the black plate and si...

Removable Trolling Motor Options

Is it realistic to take a rivet nut or some kind of stud to mount a removable trolling motor on the bow of the 170 (or any boat)? What I'm thinking is, get a significant size rivet nut (or stud insert) and flush mount them in the bow of the boat where a trolling motor mount would fit. Made out of qu...

Re: Boat Hull Interior Cleaning

I just purchased a 2014 170 Montauk and the flooring of the interior was black-ish and dingy, and I couldn't find anything to get it to be white. I tried a few cleaners suggested by the local Boston Whaler dealer. The final one I tried seemed to work wonders. It was a Magic Eraser. On the textured f...

Re: 170 Montauk Drains

Problem solved: there is an access panel on the port side of the livewell (I had to remove the port aft seat). Once opened, I can see that there is the livewell and pump hooked to the thru-hull on the starboard side (with the flange and gate over it) and another thru-hull on the port side, a straigh...

I don’t see a removable grid due to having the livewell option.

I’m assuming I have access to where you’re mentioning?

Re: 170 Montauk Drains

Looks like you’re exactly correct Jim. I crawled under there and see the other thru-hull is threaded, like the anchor locker thru-hull, and it would fit an included plug perfectly. Weird: there are four threaded drains and only three included plugs. Maybe there were two to be plugged and one extra. ...

Re: 170 Montauk Drains

Well, I just crawled around the boat and I do not see the bulge sump drains. I do see two thru hulls (I think) under the boat, but one has a cover over it that is ‘vented’ and is closer towards the centerline of the hull on the bottom. The other looks like a normal thru Hull (from what I could tell)...

Re: 170 Montauk Drains

It is a 2014. I have the manual. Maybe due to the fact that I woke at 0300 to drive 11 hours, or the fact that I’m just not real smart has me wondering how I would’ve missed this.

170 Montauk Drains

I’m reading the [Boston Whaler 170 Montauk owner's] manual and looking at page 2-7. There are three threaded plugs: one for the anchor locker drain, and (it looks like) two for the engine splashwell drains. The only other holes in the stern of the boat are the livewell drain and the sump pump outlet...

Thanks Jim!

Yes, the trailering home is my biggest concern. Once home, I’ll be trailering almost a mile to the boat ramp. :D

Re: Finally did it! Towing Advice

What great information! Our use-case for the boat will be a lot of inshore fishing, some runs to the nearby islands (weather and experience permitting), and my 8 and 5 year old girls having fun! By experience on the island trips, I mean after I’ve had quite a few runs out with buddy boats and never ...

Finally did it! Towing Advice

I finally bought my first Boston Whaler, a 2014 170 Montauk. She was garage kept and very lightly used. I look forward to taking possession in the next day or two, but it is official. I’ll be trailering this boat from Kentucky down to Pass Christian, Mississippi, next week. Any advice would be welco...

Re: Boat Lighting for Running at Night

I have two lights mounted on my skiff (non-Whaler aluminum jobby). They're almost the full length of the boat in front of me and facing forward; the light beam and cone of the flood is roughly 12 feet away and in the opposite direction. They cast a good ways - maybe 150 to 200 yards. With this setup...

Re: 210 Montauk - new for 2018?!

After submitting a request online, the factory rep called me yesterday. Looks like they released the gel coat colors on the website on Monday. I also found that they've got an option to powdercoat the Tt-top. The factory rep said they don't release any information before it is public because it is p...

Re: Montauk 210 Thoughts

The only reason I'd like to go faster than 30 is if I were trying to outrun a storm - and if that were the case, I'm not sure the water conditions at that point would allow me to go that fast anyway. So, maybe the different prop would make the difference - if we found it to be a problem. I've long t...

Re: Montauk 210 Thoughts

I thought, having been on the 210, that it could definitely handle our load of eight people. We would, on occasion, have four adults and four to five children ages three to eight-years-old. I wouldn't consider our path, even to the islands to be offshore. We would, rarely, traverse the Mississippi S...

210 Montauk--New Model in 2018

I've still not closed on the new [210 MONTAUK] boat, and I am having second thoughts. Besides the amount of money and the questionable engine strength (from the smaller option with my projected load), my real concern is will [Boston Whaler] release a new version [210 MONTAUK] as they did with the 15...

Montauk 210 Thoughts

I've read as many posts on here as I can find about the 210 Montauk. Our family, although we spend almost every weekend on boats, only owns a very small skiff. We recently spent a good long time on our 14' aluminum skiff cruising the Bay of St. Louis (Mississippi Coast) and the connected bayous and ...
