Battery stacking
I plan to move the only battery [on a MONTAUK 17] to the console [from the usual location at the transom]. I also plan to re-wire the MONTAUK 17. I will throw out the old console floor and strap the battery directly to the deck. Then, I will use KING StarBoard sheet material to make a new [console s...

Console doors: five questions
The console doors on my [1987–please always use four digits for the year] Montauk 17 are falling apart, and I would like to rebuild them. It looks like there is a peg that is supposed to hold the corners [of the Montauk console door] together. Q1: What kind of peg is used? Q2: Is the peg just a wood...

Montauk: Installing new mechanical steering
On a 1987 Montauk with a Yamaha 90 two-stroke-power-cycle outboard engine, will the outboard engine need to be removed in order to replace the mechanical steering cable? I attempted to replace a steering cable, but I could not get out the old steering cable. The rod that goes through the tilt tube h...

Switch panel, enclosure for 17-foot boat
Hi all. Has anyone used a switch panel sold on eBay by seller ”Genuine Marine”?
Is there a better 12-Volt DC wiring enclosure than the $15 one being sold on Amazon by LeMoTech.
I plan to use them on a Boston Whaler MONTAUK 17.

Re: Montauk Mooring
Yes we probably have a 3-foot tide. That is what influenced my chain calculation. Thanks for the tip on waiting for [the anchor] to set before hooking up to it.

Montauk Mooring
I recently bought a Montauk and plan to keep it on a mooring on a creek off the Magothy River in the Chesapeake. In this creek it will be very well protected from storms and have little to no wave action. The creek bottom is thick mud. Q1: What size and what type anchor should I get? I see a good-lo...

Re: New Yamaha VF 90
I am following this thread. As my username states I recently bought a 1987 Montauk in September. It has an 1987 Evinrude 90-HP on the back, and the seller promised me it never left him stranded. I have not yet been able to get the boat to run right and am definitely leaning towards re-powering. I kn...
