Is anyone aware of specific information on the relocation of a starter battery from the stern of a Montauk to the console area on a Montauk? I did search this section of the website and others but did not find any significant information.
Thanks in advance, Bigbear

Re: White All-Round Lamp Too High
I measured the height of the pole lamp above the deck: 46-inches high. Seems like a little cutting is in order.

White All-Round Lamp Too High
The [white all-round navigation lamp] on my Montauk is probably not original and is too high to fit in my garage when the boat is on the trailer.
Can the lamp pole be shortened about six inches using a conduit cutter?

MONTAUK: Preventing Water From Collecting on Cover
My 1984 Montauk came with a canvas cover that is in good condition. Water collects in sags on the cover. What is the best way to eliminate saggy spots which collect water?

Do you boaters also put a drain plug in the drain in the anchor locker? I have left mine open and have never given it another thought.
Thanks

Thanks for the thoughtful response. Speedometer has not been working for a year and I have been trying to repair. Either I did a poor job attaching pitot tube or for got to attach
Thanks again for the knowledgeable response

MONTAUK: Water Leak Under Console
During the first time out this year, I noticed water coming from underneath the center console of my MONTAUK boat.
Q1: is it normal for water to come out from under the console?
Q2: from where can the water be coming?
Q3: can the water be coming from the bilge?
Thanks

Commissioning of Great Lakes Seasonal Aids to Navigation Delayed
During a trip from Bay City, MI to Hessel Municipal Marina, MI on Lake Huron, it was noted the major navigational buoys have not been set by the US Coast Guard. Affected areas include: Tawas, Presque Isle, Middle Island and Hessel. Second hand information indicates that it could take two more weeks ...

Re: Lake Michigan Water Level
Lake Huron levels are similarly high. Just made a trip from Bay City, MI to Hessel Municipal Marina. During the trip fixed docks in Harrisville Municipal Marina and Hammond Bay State Marina have occasionally been underwater this Spring. If the lake levels continues to increase they will be permanent...

Pitot-tube Speedometer Diagnostic Methods
[I am diagnosing] the malfunction of speedometer system. If I hook a pitot tube to the speedometer and draw a vacuum by sucking the tube, should I be able to move the needle on the speedometer? Thanks

Re: Boat Lift Support for 1984 Montauk - Part 2
Phil, Thanks for the information. Just to clarify you suggest only 2 12" rollers. The distance between the rollers would be approximately 103". Will 2 rollers provide sufficient support for the keel when separated by that distance?
Thanks

Boat Lift Support for 1984 Montauk - Part 2
Purchased Whaler last Fall. Just found an older Shorestation hoist but there are no rollers or bunks to support the keel of the boat. I am thinking that length and width wood supports will be necessary because of the unsupported distances between aluminum front/back and sides. Do I add bunks, roller...

Boat lift supports for 1984 Montauk
Purchased haler last Fall. Just found an older Shorestation hoist but there are no rollers or bunks to support the boat. Do I add bunks, rollers or just let the boat keel rest on the bare wood which covers metal supports? All opinions valued.

Re: Repair of Loose Screw Fasteners
Thanks for the response. How thick of an epoxy/filler do you recommend and how do you get that mixture into a hole without air pockets occurring. I’m a little nervous about drilling such a large hole (1/2”) in the deck.

Repair of Loose Screw Fasteners
There is a loose screw that holds the bow pulpit to the deck and a loose boat cover snap. I plan to drill out the pulpit screw hole and fill with a hardwood dowel and wood glue. Then I may cover the top of dowel with epoxy with filler. I will repair loose cover snap by filling the hole with epoxy an...

Thanks for the additional photo. The upper and lower teak blocs on my boat consist of only 2 long pieces rather then 4 short ones in the photograph. Would you have a photo of the console area in which the cushions are not present so that I can more fully understand where the snaps are located on the wood? My boat did not come with the back and cooler cushion forward of the console nor the bow cushion. Thanks for your help, Barry

1983 Montauk Wood Trim
I recently purchased a 1983 MONTAUK and am now in the process of refinishing its wood trim. The MONTAUK has fishing rod holders attached to the front of the helm station. An attached photo [below] shows the upper piece that supports rod holders. One side of the wood has an elongated slot within the ...

Location of foam and wood within hull
I may buy a used Montauk. I will tap the hull looking for changes in the sound.
Is the foam is located throughout the hull or only at and below the waterline?
[I am] also interested in the location of wood that may affect the sounding of the hull.
Thanks, Barry
