Re: 170 MONTAUK Accessory Fish Station

I will probably stop the search for now. I don't necessarily need the rod holder/table in combination or in the pylon area, it just seemed Ideal when I saw the picture. I'm so excited to have everything ready for ice out/spring cod even though I havent done more than test drive the boat. I've got mo...

Re: 170 MONTAUK Accessory Fish Station

That particular part you are referring to was an option on couple of older 90-early 2000 whalers - its called Fishing station - option 100-70203. You can easily find it on whaler parts chart on 21 or 23 outrage -17 outrage-17 dauntless. You best bet would be E-bay - I see them once a while there - ...

Re: 170 MONTAUK Accessory Fish Station

I did search for boston whaler part #1068485 (which I got from a 2004 CW post) "fishing station" and got nothing. The links and the pics from the old thread aren't useful so I'm not 100 percent sure it's the thing. The Dealer said something about parts for my boat being hard to get because...

Re: 170 MONTAUK Accessory Fish Station

I called my whaler dealer in Maine to describe the part and he wasnt able to look it up. I even Gave him the part number I found on an old CW thread and it turned up nothing. I will call email/whaler service. I was surprised I was unable to find it again searching. It’s a simple post that goes where...

170 MONTAUK Accessory Fish Station

[On a 2003 Boston Whaler 170 MONTAUK boat] I would like to replace the ski pylon with a fish station consisting of a table and rod holders. I've seen photos [of a fish station with a table and rod holders] but a dealer said he doesn't think [Boston Whaler] makes one for the [170 MONTAUK boats], just...

Re: Boat Tent Shelter

My thought right now is to just drape the canvas over a t-top, bring the front toward the bow rails and attach with bungees if bottom doesn't reach; then attach the side curtain to the side rails in the same way, and have the back door/curtain come down over the RPS. I don't have the top or the boat...

Reducing Smoke in Exhaust from Two-stroke-power-cycle Outboard Engines

Is there a way to cut down on the smoke or redirect it somehow on a two-stroke-power-cycle outboard engine?

I'm not a fan of the noise or smoke at slow speeds. I was considering re-placing my 2008 90-HP Yamaha, but $10,000 is a non-starter for me right now.

Cheers,
Craig

Re: 170 MONTAUK Bow Trolling Motor and Rail Removal

Thanks for the information and the photo; photobucket is almost unusable.

Q3: what is ideal shaft length [of a trolling motor] for the 170 MONTAUK [that will also allow the trolling motor] to fit under the rails?

I know this is an old post but do you still have the t-top or canvas available?
Thanks

Re: 2003 170 MONTAUK Top Speed

I have almost none of this information as I haven't taken possession of the boat yet, I'm not trying to be cagey or difficult --I laugh aloud--. The answers [have been] given already: the output of the Yamaha versus the Mercury and the prop sizing. Have essentially told me what I need to know. I was...

Re: 2003 170 MONTAUK Top Speed

Today I spoke with the boatyard and the Yamaha dealer. They said the engine's propeller [is] for [acceleration at full throttle from a standing start] [instead of] high end speed; they said this [propeller] is better in chop; they said the other propeller would only be good in calm water. Which prop...

Re: Boat Tent Shelter

I can't stop watching that video! I would be fine mounting it on the console for height--even better, and the flimsy supports could be replaced with something more sturdy. Not super worried about covering the space between gunwales and rails. It's almost worth ordering to see how it fits and just pu...

Re: Boat Tent Shelter

Great solution you came up with. Now that you have it in your possession, can you imagine it being place to cover just from the console back? Using it for piloting on crappy cold days? I can see it being used with a portable propane heater for warming up after cold dives. Would it allow for driving ...

170 MONTAUK T-Top and Canvas without Second Mortgage

After taking out my 2003 170 Montauk once and then diving Boston Harbor today in mid-December, I clearly need protection from the elements. The sun is obvious, but rain, wind, and spray are going to factor into [boating in] the Spring and Fall. I looked at the Mills enclosures which total around $4,...

170 MONTAUK Bow Trolling Motor and Rail Removal

Hi--I'm considering modifications I'm going to make to a 2003 Montauk 170 I just bought. I fish saltwater, fish freshwater, and also scuba dive. For someone fishing alone a lot on big lakes with downriggers, I'm convinced that a MinnKota RIPTIDE 24-Volt or similar bow motor with iPilot or co-Pilot i...

2003 170 MONTAUK Top Speed

Hi all. This is my first post. It is exciting to be part of the community after buying a 2003 Montauk 170 on Monday. The first owner [of the 2003 170 MONTAUK] was having a lot of problems with his [Mercury outboard engine]. He re-powered with a 2009 Yamaha 90-HP two-stroke-power-cycle engine. [Appar...
