Re: Replacement Trailer Winch

Good reminder to keep an eye out for these typical maintenance checks. I had a similar experience with my winch strap, it did not break, it just needed to be replaced. I also ended replacing the entire winch assembly. Once I took the original strap off to replace, my winch was rusted out and I decid...

Re: Outrage 18 Bait System

Hey Karlow - pics of my bait tank set up on my 17 foot whaler. As I said, I mounted the tank to a piece of 1 inch starboard. The starboard is then mechanically attached to the sump cover over the bilge. The sump cover has always been screwed down into the hull, so that is what holds this all in plac...

Re: 18ft Outrage bait system

Hey Karlow - I was a Dana Landing (in San Diego) on Sunday and saw an 18 Outage from the 80's that had a factory installed bait tank. The owner's father purchased the boat at Fred Hall with that option. The boat had a thru hull intake on the port side as well as an outflow. The bait tank was squaris...

Re: Two-lever Remote Throttle and Shift Controls

Hi Phil - not a rail mount. I used a RAM mount on the console. I just mounted the Garmin on the RAM mount. Standard install on the Garmin and transducer. I used a clamshell to snake the wires through into the console top. I also added a piece of starboard and mounted a stand alone Garmin GPS next to...

Re: Two-lever Remote Throttle and Shift Controls

Hi all! I recently went to a dual lever morse control for my single outboard (1984 Johnson 75 HP) 17 whaler. I have it set up as JIMH mentions above, Black is shift, red is throttle. I have used this set up for over a year and love it. I feel I have more control with this set up, and yes I pay more ...

Re: Is a classic Montauk a good fit for me?

I have a classic 17-foot Boston Whaler boat, and I live in San Diego. [The 17-foot Boston Whaler is the] perfect boat for two adults fishing off our coast. I routinely take it 20-miles to 30-miles offshore to fish for pelagics. [The 17-foot Boston Whaler boat is] not a large boat. I have two 11-year...

Montauk Bait Tank Recommendations

I have 1984 Montauk that has a bait tank. I'm curious to see how others with a similar boat have added bait tanks to their Montauk boats. I have a Kodiak 14-gallon bait tank on mine. I'd consider going as high as 20-gallons if folks have good feedback. The current set-up works fine, but I am hoping ...

Re: 1975 MONTAUK 17: Round Holes Molded Into Deck

Hard to tell with a boat that old. It could have been anything that was added or subtracted through the years. Is that a view of the front on the console?

Where in South Dakota are you? I [am] in Carlsbad.

Re: Removing Fuel Tank Bracket

You can try to slide a length of PowerPro Braided Fishing LIne between the bracket and the wall. Saw the braided line back and forth. It has worked for me, the line does wear, but it gets the job done.

Thanks for the replies.

Jim--I am still in the process of researching panels, I don't have any yet. I welcome this group's suggestions.

Solar-powered Battery Charger and Maintainer

Hi all, I have a 17-foot Boston Whaler boat with two batteries in the console. I will soon be moving my boat from my garage to an outside storage facility. I want to use solar power to charge and maintain my batteries at the site. Does anyone use solar to charge two batteries at the same time? How w...

Re: Show Us Your Whaler

This whaler started out as 1984 super sport, I put in a more recent Montauk console and RPS.

Re: Console mounting chartplotter with a RAM Mount

I agree RAM Mounts are a great way to mount electronics. Here is my set up. I know, my console top is a little cluttered, but I use all the space.
