JimP, I think it's great that you continue to weigh and record this! I'm looking forward to seeing photos of the boat in the water.

Re: Unsinkable Can Be Valuable

Thanks for sharing Jim. It was also a scary reminder that larger boats do not have level flotation requirements like boats less than 20 feet. Even though the boat was still floating, it got to a point where staying onboard was no longer possible due to the bow up angle. I wish the video showed the p...

Re: 2005 MONTAUK 2020 90 HP MERC 4STRK

In addition to the information Jim mentioned, it would help to know what your goals are: Will you typically have 1 person or 7 people onboard? Maximize top speed, hole shot, or fuel economy? Do you have bottom paint? As a comparison, my 2015 170 Montauk with 90-HP FOURSTROKE EFI came from the factor...

Re: 150 MONTAUK v. 150 SUPER SPORT

I assume you are looking at used boats based on the previous generation hull since the new model of the Sport is a 160 Super Sport not a 150. I've owned both the 150 Montauk and the 150 Sport. My 2004 150 Sport was great when my kids were little as the bench seats let them sit close to us (versus be...

Re: 170 DAUNTLESS Stern Cleats for Trailer Tie-down

I agree using two transom tie downs is better than an over the gunwale strap. The transom tied down shorter strap length should allow less movement, and it doesn't risk damaging the topsides. It looks like you've setup the straps the best you can with that trailer. I have concerns about the trailer ...

Depthfinder loses bottom at slow speed

I installed a Garmin echoMAP CHIRP 54cv with CV23M transducer on my 2015 170 Montauk. The transom mount transducer is the ridiculously long type that sticks way out from the boat. The transducer is mounted where Boston Whaler shows it in their parts diagram, which is the starboard side chine flat. T...

Re: 17' Montauk from Rhode Island to Florida

Interesting trip though the videos could have been a little better. Many times it's hard to hear him. I did learn a few things. It was nice that he had someone back home selecting his marina and lodging. He was trying to complete a lot of miles each day, so it would have been hard to stop and search...

Re: Recommendations from Floridian Whaler Owners

The Sanibel area is great for a smaller boat like your 19'. Plenty of protected areas to boat if it's windy or you can head out in the Gulf of Mexico most days. Lots of places to dock and eat including a Keys-like experience at the Cabbage Key restaurant (and that place is very touristy just like Ke...

Backrest Cushion Width 210 MONTAUK

[What is] the width of the front console backrest cushion on the first generation, 2012 through early 2018, 210 Montauk? Thanks [I am referring to the] backrest cushion that attaches to the rod holders on the front of the console. It is white--not the off-white on the current generation Montauks. I ...

Re: 150 Montauk v. 158 Edgewater v. 15 Key West

The 150 Montauk is one of the favorite boats I’ve owned. It’s simple with everything on deck and little hidden below to break or grow mold. At the end of the season pour the remaining gas into your lawn mower and get fresh gas in the Spring. While small, the layout is great and it’s easy to move aro...

Re: Concern Over Low Engine Hours

As others have mentioned, catch up on any items in the Mercury maintenance list that haven’t already been done. Impellers dry out and can send rubber pieces into the cooling system so good you took care of that. My preference is to use a Mercury dealer for that first big catch up service. Other than...

Thanks for the additional information about how you’ve liked it. I agree at this price it’s very worth it to get additional information not displayed on your gauges including fault codes. I plan to order one as well. If you already have a SmartCraft connection at the dash that’s a better choice than...

Re: 1977 Boston Whaler 15' Sport with 70 hp Yamaha

I saw David's boat a few times several years ago, including on some CW Waccamaw River trips. He's given a very honest assessment of the hull condition and you can trust his description. This boat is not going to win first place for a pristine hull. However, it's the best setup 15' Sport I've seen in...

I'm glad to see people pointed you and the kids towards a boating course. Even piloting a small boat there are things you need to learn to be safe and also to follow the legal requirements. Depending on where you live there may be other options for courses such as through your wildlife commission or...

Re: Ready to purchase a new Montauk 150 and need opinions

I recently sold a 150 Montauk, but only because my kids were getting a bit too big for four of us on the boat. It's a great boat, fit easily in the garage, and was easy to trailer. The simplicity of a Montauk can't be beat. Not a lot that can go wrong and if it does, then it's easy to fix or replace...
