Re: 2001 Johnson 200 Ocean Pro Oil in carbs

Thanks for the responses fellas, but no it wasn't leftover oil from gas evaporating, it was an insane amount of pure oil. As in spilling all over the place when I took the 6 carbs off together it was dripping so bad I had to left them sit in a 5 gallon bucket to drain with all fuel lines attached. A...

2001 Johnson 200 Ocean Pro Oil in carbs

[Moderator’s note: the thread is seeking advice on repairs and has been moved to the REPAIRS and MODIFICATION forum.] I bought a 2001 Johnson [200-HP] Ocean Pro engine. It seems to be in good condition, but I couldn't start it right off the bat. I took off the carburetors to clean them, and they wer...

2005 Yamaha 90hp tiller 4-Stroke Belt and Torque

Hey guys, I'm working on a friends 2005 Yamaha 90hp 4-stroke tiller and it had water in the bottom cylinder. The motor is so beat up that most would of thrown it to the scrap bin but I couldn't bear to do it so I took it apart and had the head repaired and got it all torqued back into place but the ...

Re: 1989 Evinrude 40 Water Pump O-ring Locations

Thanks jim and oldslowandugly but no I'm not talking about the spaghetti seal. They're two perfectly circular O rings that appear nowhere on any schematic that I've come across and I've chocked it up to being on different models. What gets me is that there's guys on youtube showing you to put one o-...

1989 Evinrude 40 Water Pump O-ring Locations

For a 1989 Evinrude 40-HP there are two O-rings that come in the water pump replacement kit #438592, a large O-ring and a small O-ring. The manual does not reference them, and the schematics don't either. YouTube videos show guys guessing of their location. Q1: Does the large O-ring go in between th...

Johnson 200 Different Temp on Port side bank

Thanks again to all who've helped me over the past few months. I have a 1990 Johnson 200 counter-rotating outboard engine with: --new flywheel magnets --new stator --new timing base --re-built carburetor --[new] coil --two 140-degree thermostats (white Sierra ones) --new head gaskets --new thermosta...

Re: Carburetor Orifice Size; Cause of Aural Alert Alarm

Yes, I meant the 36 was in the 46 hole.

I only get to work on the engine at night after the infant and toddler get to bed, so I'm usually pretty tired. That led me to misspeak.

Re: Carburetor Orifice Size; Cause of Aural Alert Alarm

I was not able to determine if [the one odd-size #36 air bleed] was intentional. I swapped it out because I had an old set of six carburetors from a 1994 200 Ocean Runner which had all-alike orifices. By "the rest” I meant the block heating up and sealing the heads against the block without usi...

Re: Carburetor Orifice Size; Cause of Aural Alert Alarm

A new size #46 orifice showed up. Flywheel magnets showed up. The epoxy packets are so old that I think [the epoxy packets are] past the point of no return. I will order new epoxy and do [the repair on the] flywheel [on December 6 and 7, 2018]. THERMOSTAT GASKETS (new topic) I got Johnson-Evinrude g...

Re: Carburetor Orifice Size; Cause of Aural Alert Alarm

Thanks Jim, very much appreciated, lots of good stuff in there. And yes, I know there's the high speed orifice in the bowl; I just mentioned the other two. I ordered a size 46 orifice last night. Here's my next question: If you remember from an old post last month all six of my flywheel magnets beca...

Carburetor Orifice Size; Cause of Aural Alert Alarm

While cleaning [the carburetors on a 1990 Johnson 200-HP outboard engine], I took note of the orifice sizes. The orifices are size 42 on the top and size 46 on the bottom. However, one carburetor had a size 36 orifice inserted at the top. [Eventually clarified as follows: the size 36 orifice was in ...

Re: What Solvent To Soak Power Head Before Reinstallation

The motor sat for three years (had kids and built a house) and it needs a new stator, timer base, and flywheels magnets. The water was also always super hot I thought coming out of the hole. So before I dropped $800 in parts on a 30 yr old motor I just thought i’d strip the whole thing down over thi...

What Solvent To Soak Power Head Before Reinstallation

I'm in the process of rehabbing my 1990 Johnson 200-HP.

[In what solvent should] the heads be soaked in before reinstallation?

I'm cleaning them the best I can. I'd like to soak them in something.

Thanks.

1990 Johnson 200 Flywheel and Stator

I've a 1990 Johnson 200 counter-rotating engine which hasn't been run in three years. It was running roughly and had always been a hard starter. I finally had time to remove the flywheel. Three magnets were shattered and the other three had broken free of the epoxy. The flywheel had also been rubbin...

2004 Yamaha 40 TLRC Oil Warning Lamp

The oil warning light [on a gauge associated with a 2004 Yamaha 40 TLRC outboard engine] has been orange ever since buying it a year ago. I put in a full quart and still it stayed orange. When I was replacing my fuel pump today I noticed there was a wiring harness that wasn't attached, and it was th...
