In order to use a toggle bolt you need a hollow space under the deck and they are best used for bolting a shelf to a wall, and I don't ever remember seeing a stainless steel toggle bolt.

Sapele is the wood of choice for marine trim work. It is not really mahogany, its a type of cedar. Its a lot cheaper than real mahogany, it has a better look, and is easier to find than Phillipine mahogany. I haven't bought any in five or six years but I used to pay $5.00 a board foot. Make a cardboard template using your existing console and have one made be some one who works with plastic. The height might not be accurate as to OEM just make it to suit yourself. Don't bend the cardboard, cut it and tape the bends with masking tape.

Wood bleach available in the paint department of Home Depot will create a uniform look to all the wood. It may be lighter than you want it, and you might have to stain the wood. rich

In your video, I noticed the boat was porpoising pretty good when you kicked the motor out a bit. Actually that was probably the right setup, but that's what happens when you put a performance motor on a non performance hull. It would be better suited on a Donzi Sweet sixteen, and quite a bit faster...

The only pieces of a 13 foot whaler's interior that was 5/4" thick was the seat thwarts. everything else was 3/4" thick.

Thanks for the correction. I was thinking of a classic. I've used Gorilla glue or 5200 to glue parts onto boats and both work extremely well. Marine Tex is more of a Bondo type material.

It's been used and probably does a satisfactory job on Boston Whalers, and I would use it on a non descript boat, but not on a quality boat such as a Whaler, or Bertram, etc. for fear of depreciating the value.

The entire deck of a Boston Whaler 15 footer has plywood under it. When I cut out a rigging tunnel to a center console That I built for my 15 footer I discovered that the undersides of the deck was 1/2" 3 ply plywood. After some research I found out that there is plywood everywhere.

I believe that PVC sealed with 5200 is the only permanent solution. No more worries about corrosion. I think I used schedule 120 (thinwall), not schedule 40 for an almost exact fit. I don't remember it was a long time ago, and its been off my mind for years now.
