Re: Trailer Axle Replacement for COX Trailer
Brian, Have you tried Champion Trailers (https://www.championtrailers.com/axles-and-axle-hardware/)? I've used them with great success in the past. Custom measured replacement axles shipped to your door. I replaced both axles on my 1992 Magnum galvanized trailer and the fit was perfect. Good luck. -...

Re: 1986 OUTRAGE 25: Adding a Jack Plate
I agree with JimH's comment. "Performance" impacts will be minor, 1-2 mph at top end. I'd venture to guess you might experience a subjective improvement in ride quality offshore due to adjustability of the motor height. But again, as Jim mentions, dialing in the optimum motor height would ...

Re: Help with 1985 Johnson 90-HP
Congrats on the boat. Q1: at this point, what other elements of the engine and boat should be checked? In my opinion, you've done what you can for now, assuming you've serviced the rest of the engine and found it in good condition. I recommend testing the boat in May 2023 using the following procedu...

Re: Optimal time of year to buy a used outboard engine
In my experience over the past 15 years of debating new and used outboard engines, the best time for selection and value when buying a used outboard engine is a small, random window of time in which a engine that meets your criteria is available for purchase and you have cash funds available to stri...

Re: HONDA BF90 Missing Power
Dialing in the propeller is indeed necessary to allow an outboard to reach its maximum rpm range. And the carburetors should be examined to ensure they are clean. However, because the engine "runs perfectly" and "jumps on plane," I will offer another possible cause for failing to...

Re: Montauk 17 for Galveston Bay
As jimh mentioned, any of the Montauk 17 foot models would be sufficient-to-ideal for your purposes. I will assume you're looking at a classic Montauk 17. I have a close friend in Houston with one and have ridden in it extensively in Galveston and Matagorda bay complexes. Others can chime in on othe...

Re: 1988 Outrage 22 Whaler Drive E-TEC 200 H.O.
My boat may be a decent comparison: it is a 1984 Outrage 22 with 128 gallon tank, 1987 Evinrude 225 (this is a 2.7 liter carburetor engine). I found the best results with a 14.25-inch diameter 15-pitch Stilletto brand propeller (now Yamaha). Loaded down with full tank of gasoline, two people, and su...

Re: 1984 Outrage 22 Re-power 2005 E-TEC E225
Thank you all for the thoughtful posts and anecdotes. Please keep them coming. I'm still wrestling with my decision re: new vs. used, and if used, do I choose THIS motor. In my observations of used outboard engine--I keep an online lookout constantly--I find that the available choices are usually in...

1984 Outrage 22 Re-power 2005 E-TEC E225
My 22 Outrage has been unused this year because I have lost faith in my 1987 Evinrude E225TXCUB. I can't track down the source of an overheat condition, which I now believe is a water jacket problem inside the block. My dream repower is a new Mercury V6 225-HP FOURSTROKE, bur that engine is way pric...

Re: Odd Squares on a 1989 22 Outrage
My guess is that it is where the boat was supported on stands (off a trailer) during bottom painting. This is just a guess, but the pattern looks like a boat stand (jack stand), and perhaps as the boat was painted, and then the stands shifted to cover the area of the jack stands, the amount of paint...

Wow. Great layout. Professional-looking installation, and usable in the best sense of the word. Ergonomically functional. Lots of capability, but not cluttered-looking. Nice job!

As most have mentioned, a bit more information would be helpful and we can guide you better after we know your budget, storage options, where you live and boat, etc. Here's my $.02. I lived in Houston (west side, just off Westheimer between Beltway 8 and Highway 6) for 15 years. I fished all the upp...

Re: 1996 Outrage 17: Source for Replacement Console
I am not sure where you are located, Bill, but I would check two sources outside of Houston, TX in Bastrop/Kemah: Angel's Marine (Angel Arciniega) (281) 337-1982, and Orlando's Fiberglass (Joe Orlando) (281) 334-2902. It appears neither has a website, but they are both are on Facebook. I have heard ...

Re: Broken 20-Ampere Fuse Holder
Just wanted to thank JimH again. I replaced the corroded stock fuse holder with the Blue Seas product Jim recommended. I also rechecked, cleaned, and tightened all grounds. Engine fires up reliably now, and noticeably quicker. I believe the deteriorated fuse connection was the cause of the intermitt...

Thank you, Jim. Your response confirms what I thought, but wanted to ensure I didn't damage anything further. I very much appreciate the link to the Blue Seas fuse holder. Broken 20-Ampere Fuse Holder
I have a 1987 Evinrude 225, E225TXCUB on my 1984 Outrage 22. I've been trying to track down a very intermittent starting problem--intermittently the engine won't crank. In the process I damaged the 20-Ampere fuse holder on the port side of my engine. The connection was brittle--ironically, the fuse ...

Re: Raising console in Outrage 25
Thanks, Russell. That's a good explanation, and it sounds like just raising the console without the slider would probably be the way to go. And it's admirable that you can sit inside the console. I'm not sure I'm that patient (or tolerant of small spaces), but console access is another reason I have...

Re: Raising console in Outrage 25
Nice work! When the time comes to repower, I'm considering doing something similar and would love any drawings, dimensions, etc. Because I have the 129 gallon tank, I moved my batteries to the console for better balance. Works well, but a pain to access or remove or replace them. When I repower, my ...

Re: Appraisal: 1984 Outrage 22
Thanks Jeff. I realize these appraisal requests are inexact, and that sales prices are highly variable. I love the boat--probably too much--and am trying to decide whether I give it a good re-fit and hang on to it, or let it go now to someone else with the drive to do the work. I will get some new p...
