Re: 1986 Outrage 20: Water in Fuel Tank
[Condensed four posts into this one--jimh] I decided to go with Coosa board under the 4 x 10-foot section of deck that I will take out. I am going to skip foaming [the fuel tank into the fuel tank cavity]. I will add a self priming pump hose [at the aft end of the fuel tank cavity] to remove any wat...

Re: 1986 OUTRAGE 20 Replacement Fuel Tank
Thanks Jim. yeah, I was referring to the center console. You're absolutely right though, It makes way more sense to start from scratch with most of the wiring at this point. I will also need to recore the deck. I appreciate all the advice and I will update this thread with exact measurements for a 2...

Re: 1986 OUTRAGE 20 Replacement Fuel Tank
Why don't you pull the existing tank to really get to the bottom of it. I will be doing just that. I was just hoping I could iron out these dimensions before hand. It would be much easier for me to de-rig everything, get the tank out, reinstall the new, and rig everything back up while its fresh in...

Re: 1986 OUTRAGE 20 Replacement Fuel Tank
From the archives. 2nd post on this thread. http://continuouswave.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3718 I did find that when I was first looking for confirmation. Thanks Phil I was a bit concerned that I think there are other important dimensions that are being left out of that post. I have been going bac...

Re: 1986 OUTRAGE 20 Replacement Fuel Tank
FMT CC'd Bostom Whaler in on my email to them questioning if both 77gallon tanks were the same and the response I got was this: "Unfortunately due to the age of the boat, we no longer have the part numbers in our system. However, I would be pretty confident that the fuel tanks would not be the ...

Re: 1986 OUTRAGE 20 Replacement Fuel Tank
Here are the dimensions [Luther's] are using which match some searches I have done about a 20' tank:

1986 OUTRAGE 20 Replacement Fuel Tank
I need to replace the fuel tank on my 1986 Outrage 20. I got a quote from Florida Marine Tank a while back that listed their proposed replacement tank as a 77-gallon. I have old literature saying the fuel tank is a 77-gallon tank as well. I'd like to order a tank from Luthers in Rhode Island, but th...

Okay. Your advice makes sense. Thank you.Phil T wrote:Derigging at the console is the prevailing way. You can shift the console forward rather than remove it from the boat.

Re: 1986 Outrage 20: Water in Fuel Tank
Thanks Al. I appreciate all the advice so far. After reaching my hand in each deck plate and feeling around the underside of the deck, the time to record [something] and just replace the tank [is at hand]. I plan to perform all repairs during the winter. This is not my first tank replacement. It is ...

Re: 1986 Outrage 20: Water in Fuel Tank
I am fairly certain the fill hose was dated c.2006. When I first picked the boat up, the panel that covers the fill and vent hoses on the port side was coming off and I thought I saw a date.. I will double check. Either way, Im sure [the fill hose] needs replacing. I will poke around the boat more t...

Re: 1986 Outrage 20: Water in Fuel Tank
I updated the photo descriptions. thanks The boat was used in freshwater for the last 9 years until I put it in saltwater this season. I haven't spent much time at all washing the boat this year, so I would think the mold and mildew is from rainwater. It did look mostly like that when I picked the b...

Re: 1986 Outrage 20: Water in Fuel Tank
I just took apart all the inspection ports and took some photos. The tank is original (1986) I removed the fuel gauge assembly and there was a new gasket there from when I installed it in June. I am not sure it was perfectly seated and you can see an outline of how it sat on the underside of the gau...

Re: 1986 Outrage 20: Water in Fuel Tank
My tank was filled all the way that last time I used the boat. I put in 33 gallons. I burned off that 1/8th-tank volume on my way back to my mooring. It could be coincidental, but my gut just kept saying the bilge not working and all that water sitting on the tank had to be the main contributing fac...

Re: 1986 Outrage 20: Water in Fuel Tank
...The first problem set to resolve is how to remove 55-gallons of contaminated gasoline fuel from the tank... My plan was to just siphon out all the fuel into 5-gallon jugs, which oddly enough I have way more than necessary for this. My local transfer station will dispose of the fuel. Do you think...

Re: 1986 Outrage 20: Water in Fuel Tank
I am not clear what component of the OUTRAGE 20 fuel system you are describing as "the fuel sending unit." Please elaborate and give a better description of this component. Poor choice of words on my end. I meant fuel gauge unit. When I bought the boat the top magnetic gauge was missing. ...

1986 Outrage 20: Water in Fuel Tank
[This topic about making repairs to the fuel system of a Boston Whaler boat has been moved to the REPAIRS and MODIFICATIONS forum for discussion from another forum--jimh.] BACKSTORY: I picked up a 1986 Outrage in 2019 Spring. It came with a 1998 Yamaha 200-HP carburetor engine. We put on about 20-ho...

In need of a favor (measurement) 20-22 Outrage
I have a 1987 20 Outrage that I bought a few months back that came on a roller trailer. The trailer is in great shape, but I am converting it to bunk trailer for obvious reasons. Can someone measure the spacing (bunk width) on their bunk trailer that has either a 20' or 22' outrage of this vintage? ...
