Thanks and fair winds
Well, I just sold my third and last Boston Whaler boat, and I am down to my big Grady. I just wanted to say thanks to JIMH and all the other folks on this board who have been incredibly helpful over the past 15 years. Fair winds, and maybe I'll be back someday.

Re: Conquest 28 Hull Design Lineage and Ride Quality
Part of the confusion here is that there are actually two different Boston Whaler CONQUEST model lines which have been referred to as a "28 Conquest.” The original 28 Conquest came out c.1998 or c.1999, and was produced until c.2004 or c.2005. Somewhere around c.2002 the “28 CONQUEST” was renam...

Re: Hull Penetration Caused Eventual Delamination
Oh—ha ha. I didn't notice the "Martinique" part. I actually vacation down in the Caribbean so I'll be keeping an eye out for her. I loved that boat, even if my back didn't.

Re: Hull Penetration Caused Eventual Delamination
Holy Smokes. I am totally surprised--talk about a small world. I am glad the boat is getting a second life--and in France too. That's just amazing. She served me very very well and always got me home safe and sound. Hilarious about the hats -- I thought I'd removed everything from the boat. They wer...

Re: Hull Penetration Caused Eventual Delamination
Coincidentally, I saw what I'm almost certain is my old boat for sale in Florida a month or two ago, but with twin Suzuki engines. The boat was named the Lucy Maria, and its successor is the Lucy Maria II of course. The listing that I saw made no mention of any hull delamination. The listing of for-...

Re: 1999 Ventura 20 Advice
I have a 1996 20 Dauntless (exact same boat as pictured -- I *think* it was still the Dauntless back in 1999) I believe bunk trailers are recommended over rollers and mine worked fine on my boat. I ended up selling the trailer as I rarely used it. I Love Tim S's comments and critiques of the boat --...

Re: Rinsing Fuel Tank Top
Interesting - for some reason I assumed [my 1996 20 Dauntless] had an aluminum tank. I'll have to look at it more closely through the inspection hatches.

Rinsing Fuel Tank Top
The manufacturer of my other boat, Grady-White, recommends periodically opening the access hatches and rinsing the top of the fuel tank to prevent salt build-up and resulting corrosion. Do any readers [periodically rinse the top of their Boston Whaler boat fuel tank]?

Re: 1996 DAUNTLESS 20
Funny you should ask. I'm going to raise my motor by at least one-hole this season, because I get pretty bad torque steer. I'm told that is often an indication that the engine mounting is too low. I also have to keep the engine trimmed down pretty far to prevent porpoising. I never have any trouble ...

Re: 1996 DAUNTLESS 20
I have exactly the same 1996 Dauntless 20 which I use in Cape Cod Bay for waterskiing and tubing.--great boat. A few my neighbors have similar vintages. To answer a few of your questions: The stainless steel fairlead at the bow isn't designed to hold the anchor (at least as far as I know). It acts mo...

Re: Danger in Cold Water
Here's a great article on gcaptain about cold water survival. This article convinced me to always wear an inflatable PFD (you get used to it), and outfit my boats with wireless kill-switches.

Re: 1996 DAUNTLESS
I've had a [1996] 20 Dauntless for about 10 years, and we love it. It came with a 175-HP Johnson Oceanrunner and I repowered it two years ago with a 175-HP Evinrude ETEC. It's a great boat for running around in moderate ocean chop and does a great job pulling waterskiers and tubes. I agree about the...

Re: Purchasing a Used Conquest
I highly recommend that you sea-trial different hulls in fairly rough conditions before purchasing. I had a 1999 28 Conquest (later known as the 295 Conquest) and I was never happy with its ride in a head sea.

I added these strobes to all my inflatable jackets this year: http://www.amazon.com/UST-Marine-See-Me ... B001VIXTS0
I also subscribe to the "must wear or stay on the dock" principle, but fortunately the inflatables are pretty comfortable!

Re: Hull Penetration Caused Eventual Delamination
Thanks, guys. Yes, I ended up finding a 2003 Grady White 330 Express that was in great shape, but needed re-powering and I ended up cutting a good deal for my newish motors which I knew were well maintained. The new boat will be back in its usual slip next week! I'm looking forward to trying it out ...

Hull Penetration Caused Eventual Delamination
Hi folks. I am a long-time CW member, and until recently proud owner of two Boston Whaler boats, a 1999 28 Conquest and a 1996 20 Dauntless. Let me start by saying that I love my Dauntless and loved my Conquest (past tense intentional), and I seriously considered not posting this note as I do not ev...
