Re: Affect of Engine Mounting Height on Stability
Q1: Do you have to lower the engine in turns? Q2: Have you done any modifications to the hull to make it more stable? Q3: What propeller are you running? I also own a 1985 SPORT 15; it has a 2014 Yamaha F70. Boat speed at full throttle is 43-MPH. The engine is two-holes-up. The propeller is a PowerT...

Re: My new 1990 Super Sport 15
I own a 1986 15’ Sport. I mounted a bimini but didn’t drill into the gunwales. I used a ball mount on the middle side rail vertical supports. It works great. I did have to drill for the strap mounts but not the base.
This may sound confusing so I’ll take some photos.

Thanks El Rollo. You’re right, I’m very pleased with the SCD3 17-pitch. I couldn’t have had a professional propeller technician dial-in the propeller more perfectly than it is now.

Re: Bilge Pump Float Switch
In addition to my 1985 15’ Whaler Sport, I own a 38’ Morgan sailboat with two bilge pumps. I used to buy the Rule caged switches, but I would replace them at least once a year because they would fail. I tried the Sure Bail caged switch about four years ago, and I haven’t replaced it yet. Re: Can a cutter designed for soft steel electrical conduit cut stainless steel tubing
I spent 38 years in the pipeline industry. We cut stainless tubing daily with tubing cutters. You won’t have a problem with a tubing cutter from Lowe’s or Home Depot.

Re: Time for drain tubes
I decided to replace the three transom drain tubes on my 1985 15’ Sport after reading all of the posts about drain tubes. I thought since my boat is in such good shape that the drain tubes would probably be okay. I was wrong and I am glad I replaced them. The two upper tubes on the splash well were ...

Classic 15 with F70 performance
This past weekend, my adult daughter and I took my 1985 15’ Sport with Yamaha F70 out for a ride. At the beginning of summer I installed a PowerTech SCD3 13.35” x 17” prop but hadn’t truly tested it. My motor is mounted 2 holes up. We had about 8 gallons of gas, light gear, 325 in crew (me 200, her ...

El Rollo: I ended up purchasing a SCD3 in 17-pitch, but haven’t been able to test it yet. My wife and I took a ride but she gets nervous when the boat gets over about 35-MPH . My engine is mounted at two-holes-up. I think I need to raise the engine one more hole. I’ll post again after further testing.

SPORT 15 with F70
EL ROLLO: what propeller did you choose for your SPORT 15? I have the same boat (1985 15’ Sport) and engine (Yamaha F70) but without the jack plate, the trolling motor, and the extra batteries. I have been considering a four-blade. Most of my running is in the 4000 to 4500-RPM range and top-end spee...

If worried about the weight, consider the Yamaha F70 which is 253-lbs. An increase of 100-lbs is a lot for only an additional 5-HP.

Re: 1987 Montauk 17 Rub Rail Gap
Recently I replaced the rub rail on my 1985 Sport 15. The job was not bad. The rub rail was about $260 from Specialty Marine and fits 13 through 17 classic hulls. I’m not sure how you would splice it and not have an obvious repair showing. Good luck

I own a 1985 15’ Sport with a Yamaha F70 four stroke.
