My biggest concern [in selecting an outboard engine for a 15-foot Boston Whaler] is engine weight. [Some engine only identified as a] current four-stroke-power-cycle engine weighs 353-lbs, which is more weight than I would want on a classic 15-footer.

I tow my classic 15' which is lighter than your 150 sport with my '12 Legacy 2.5i. I am with Jim if you are concern about the brakes, I would add trailer brakes. The 3.6R engine that you have has larger brakes than 4 cylinder 2.5i as well.

The water line depends on the weight of the motor. My water line is at the splash well holes. If you added a 1" or so buffer line that would correct for my boat. I have a 260-lbs motor with a jack plate.
