Re: Outboard for 15-footer

My biggest concern [in selecting an outboard engine for a 15-foot Boston Whaler] is engine weight. [Some engine only identified as a] current four-stroke-power-cycle engine weighs 353-lbs, which is more weight than I would want on a classic 15-footer.

Re: Classic Outrage 18 v. Classic Outrage 22

In the late 80's, Boston Whaler acquired some manufacturing facilities in FL and started a slow transition to move production from the south shore of Boston to Florida. I wonder if the Outrage 22 production was done in both facilities and the splash well difference might be due to where the hull was...

Re: The 15-footer

I own a 15' SS. I have never owned a 13' but I have been on my fair share of 13's. The Classic 15' is a better and drier riding hull than the Classic 13' especially if you have non smirked hull. Improvement in the ride is due to the hull design and the additional weight. In any chop is very noticeab...

Re: 15-foot Models

I have a Super Sport [15]. I like the storage of the rear seat. It takes up less than a foot of room. I prefer the vertical steering wheel of the Super Sport, plus it has a better location for gauges. I dislike the railing. I would prefer no railing in the front. All the wrap-around railing does it ...

Re: Towing with a Subaru Outback

I tow my classic 15' which is lighter than your 150 sport with my '12 Legacy 2.5i. I am with Jim if you are concern about the brakes, I would add trailer brakes. The 3.6R engine that you have has larger brakes than 4 cylinder 2.5i as well.

Re: Center Console 15 with Cracked Transom

The water line depends on the weight of the motor. My water line is at the splash well holes. If you added a 1" or so buffer line that would correct for my boat. I have a 260-lbs motor with a jack plate.

Re: 2009 VW Sport Wagon as Tow Vehicle

I use my wife's 2014 VW sportwagen tdi (same gen as 09) for towing my 15' whaler. I would check the owner manual for the rating, 2014 is 2000# for the 5 cylinder Auto or Manual and 1000 for the MT diesel and 0 for the dsg diesel. The 2009-14 sportwagen ratings changed over that generation of sportwa...

Re: 15 Striper Re-power: Mercury 60 EFI

An engine with 60-HP should push your classic 15-footer to 40-MPH. It seems odd the engine is spraying water and the [anti-ventilation] plate is under [water] if it's mounted two-holes-up. I would check the mounting. If it is mounted two-holes-up, is their a chance you were sold a 25-inch-shaft engi...

Re: Miami Internation Boat Show 2016

Boston Whaler debut the redesigned Outrage 250 at Miami Boat show. They also recently changed the Outrage 280 and 330 Outrage (previously 320) for 2016. Comparing specs, all three models grew in length and weight. For instance the 250 grew from 24'6" to 25'5". I watched boat test review an...

Re: 13 GLS and 9.9-HP

You technically have a Boston Whaler 13 GLS Boston Whaler. The "130" designator is used for the new 130 hull, which is different. The GLS is heavier than the SPORT as well. The minimum power that will [give] satisfactory performance with a light load is 9-HP. I have been in 13-foot tiller-...

Re: Boston Whaler Boats Underpowered

I think the 150 SPORT and 150 MONTAUK could easily be rated for more horsepower, but the 75-HP and 90-HP Mercury engines weigh 100-lbs more than the 60-HP model; [the engine weight] seems to affect how Boston is rating the hull. A 75-HP on 150 [SPORT] should push the top speed to 40-MPH. A 90-HP wou...

Re: The Boston Whaler 15-foot Hull

When do you have glass like conditions that you can run these smaller 13 and 15 safely at top speed? It doesn't need to be glass like conditions to do 45mph in a 15-footer. Where I boat I could probably do top speed on 50% of days in the summer. If it's that windy it's usually not a boating day any...
