Re: 15' SS limited (Dual Console) Fair price
It's is good shape, located in the PNW. it's a great boat and priced in that range. However it's not the right time for my boy. He's 12 and the 13' ss still has alot to teach him on the water. Just 2 or 3 years too soon. Likley jump to 17' when he is 15.

15' SS limited (Dual Console) Fair price
A friend at work has a 15' SS limited that I've always admired. Yesterday he mentioned selling it. I know condition it the big factor but what is a starting point? It is an 87' with a 1997? 50 hp Honda 4 stroke. It is on a serviceable trailer and covered. It is an odd ball whaler with the fiberglass...

What brand and model is the 40? You need to know the manufacturer’s recommended RPM range.

Re: SUPER SPORT 13 with Bigfoot 9.9-HP / 15hp
I'm super happy with the performance, ran 20-MPH most of the day and did a bit of fishing.
The prop selection was 1/2 voodoo and as I shocked my son. had to use math--he liked that line.
Also l've had some great advice from lots of good folks around the web.

Re: SUPER SPORT 13 with 9.9-HP
When you are 11 years old, this boat is plenty fast. I'm having a great time squeezing every bit out of this rig with my son.
New prop Solas 11-pitch; same test conditions as before
Dad and son
MPH = 21.4
RPM = 5400
Son only
MPH = 22.2
RPM = 5700

I ordered a Solas three-blade with 11-pitch. I'll post data about performance after it arrives.

Re: SUPER SPORT 13 with 9.9-HP
In conclusion and support of prior suggestions:
- if you want to run a 9.9-HP get a light, pull-start, two-stroke engine and a can of diet coke.
- avoid the heavier super sport
- BIGFOOT gear case robs speed
- buy the 15hp

Re: SUPER SPORT 13 with 9.9-HP
[The 9.9-HP engine under discussion] is the larger 323-cc or 19.7-cubic-inch block made by Yamaha. I had to go with a 9.9-HP engine for local laws. (A 40-HP four-cylinder two-stroke-power-cycle outboard engine is now in my garage.) By tug boat prop I meant prop is designed not for speed but to push ...

Re: SUPER SPORT 13 with 9.9-HP
Merc spec is 5500 wot max Yep the 3" gearcase on the bigfoot is working against us. So is all the additional weight. But it's the motor I have. The prop looks like 3 table spoons. Looks like a tugboat prop. It is only 9.5" of pitch but I think it might be out of wack. Solas makes a few pro...

SUPER SPORT 13 with Bigfoot 9.9-HP / 15hp
The restoration of a 1988 [SUPER SPORT 13] is finished, and the boat now has a 2004 9.9-HP BIGFOOT engine with electric start, a battery, remote steering, and a 6-gallon fuel tank. The original four-cylinder 40-HP two-stroke-power-cycle engine has been removed; it was too much power for an 11-year-o...

Re: Converting roller trailer to bunks 13' SS
Thanks for the ideas. I came up with a hybrid idea. I cut the rollers off and kept the mounts, then ordered a new set of mounts from Eastern.
Next is bunk placement, outboard of the hull stakes gives very little support, I'm thinking of going inboard but worried about stability.

Converting roller trailer to bunks 13' SS
I pulled the hull off the roller trailer (argh) and found damage to the glass from contacting the steel between the rollers. It's all repaired now and I would like to put a set of bunks on the trailer and trash the goofy tilty rollers. I'm having trouble locating a kit locally so I've turned to the ...

Desert Tan Color in a Two-part Paint
Point me to [a two-part paint or something similar] that will keep off the ultra-violet sunlight from [repairs made with] WEST System epoxy resin and be close in color to Desert Tan. BACKSTORY: I am working with my son on an old SUPER SPORT 13. We have the hull flipped in the garage and started work...

Re: 1998 SUPER SPORT 13: Reinstalling Interior
Yep, the previous owner had an elaborate system of lift points and tie downs where holes were drilled through the rub rail and hull. They had to cut 2 reliefs in the L track to keep the SS brackets against the hull. I had to pull the rail to properly fill the holes. Again, a quick project begins to ...

Re: 1998 SUPER SPORT 13: Reinstalling Interior
For twenty years there has been an article in REFERENCE about rub rails for classic Boston Whaler boats and where to get them. Rub Rail Rivet Fastener Removal
I am pulling off the rub rail [of a classic Boston Whaler boat (unidentified)]. What can I do about the ends of the rivets? Some [prior discussions on this topic recommended to] push [the old rivet] back in to the foam, and fill the hole. Is this the best way to do this? Or, [should the old rivet be...

Re: 1998 SUPER SPORT 13: Reinstalling Interior
[I have o]dered a small patch amount of Desert Tan from Spectrum and a new rub rail kit from Barbour, who are super knowledgeable. Their [rub rail replacement] kit [contained] 29-feet [of three piece railings and cost] $185 for all three pieces—not too bad for such a big cosmetic improvement. BARBOU...

Re: 1998 SUPER SPORT 13: Reinstalling Interior
The repairs were done prior to us picking up the boat. It appears the repair involved putting tape on the hull, flush with gel coat, and injecting thickened resin from the inside. [The external surface of the repair area is then] flush with the highest level of the existing gel coat resin layer. I'l...

1998 SUPER SPORT 13: Reinstalling Interior
I have been fighting with varnish all winter and now it is time to put the [1988 SUPER SPORT 13] back together--if I can recall where all these bits go, as there are way more parts than the Sport I had as a kid. I bought this thing partially disassembled, and about half the hardware is missing. I ha...

Re: SPORT 13 with 9.9-HP
I grew up on a SPORT 13 with a 7.5-HP engine, and the boat planed just fine. I'm in the process of building a SUPER SPORT 13 with my son. We have the same rules here--less than 15-HP under 12 years old. We picked up a 9.9-HP four-stroke BIGFOOT. I'll post performance results when the boat is set up.
