Recommended GPR Fish Finder for 1981 Sport 13

[Moderator's note: this topic has moved to SMALL BOAT ELECTRICAL because it seeks advice on boat electronics.] I need advice or recommendation [for a GPR Fish Finder for a 1982 Sport 13]. I live on a sandy bay and will be taking my boat a few miles where it is important to stay in the channels that ...

Navigating CONTINUOUSWAVE Resources

Is there anywhere on the site where there is a writeup on basics for classic whaler owners to get started? I've looked a bit and did not find any; it may save me from asking a bunch of simple questions that have been answered before.

Thanks

Re: 1981 Sport 13: Mounting Rails and Weather Canvas

Do you want and need the bow rails? I personally think they are ugly on 13's but if you have small kids, not a bad idea. Just because you have them, does not mean you have to install them. Usually the most aft railing stanchion is drilled all the way through the hull and there is a securing plate t...

1981 Sport 13: Mounting Rails and Weather Canvas

Thanks to advice from this forum, I [made a decision to purchase a Boston Whaler SPORT 13 boat] for small family use and in a flat bay. This Boston Whaler boat came with a nice Bimini top as well as front rails, but neither are installed. Given there [will be] side rails [installed], is use of clip-...

Re: Engine for classic 13-footer

Very close to buying this package-- the 35 HP 1982. Boat (1983 Super sport) in great shape and engine seems very good for its age (sale is contingent on full water test next weekend). The seller is great-- passionate about whalers and has had dozens of all types. 1) Given my inexperience and the fac...

Re: Engine for classic 13-footer

Thanks to all. I think either engine would be okay for us. Kids are still young, primary purpose of boat is more transport than sport (we will never slalom; kids are 5 and 10), but all things being equal wanted the idea/ability to potentially do some fun amateur watersports in the coming years. To t...

Re: Engine for classic 13-footer

Thank you very much Jimh All very clear and helpful points; nearly all signs point to 25hp and you raised a few that I hadn't thought about. I think I'm really leaning towards that one; part of me wanted to make sure I am not being stupid in HP, as rule of thumb is "get a bit more HP so you are...

Engine for classic 13-footer

I use a 13-foot Boston Whaler boat for short trips, and maybe some tubing or waterskiing with skinny kids. I have a choice between two engines for my [13-foot Boston Whaler boat]: --a 1982 Evinrude 35-HP electric start and no pull start, and --a 1989 Johnson 25-HP with electric start and pull start....

Seat Backs for 13' Classic

We are considering purchasing a classic whaler which has the original seats, with no seat backs. It seems you can get the Mahogany seat backs that screw into the seats to get back support, and I wondered if anyone here had experience or opinions on this. You would need to screw into the seat, which ...
