Re: Gel Coat Brown Liquid Deposit
I used Total Boat products. I ended up spraying the gel coat and it tuned out fine, except I had a pretty rough orange peel. The gel coat sanded down to a beautiful finish, but, the sides of the hull were and are not perfectly smooth and the result is a very uneven shine. Some spots are super shiny,...

Re: Gel Coat Brown Liquid Deposit
Sorry for the delay in responding. Yes this is new gel coat over old gel coat that was sanded down. It does seem to be more active if the hull is in the sun vs in the shop. In fact I never noticed it until I rolled the hull outside for few days. It's an 1963, 13 foot classic. I'll be doing a few sma...

Gel Coat Brown Liquid Deposit
Q1: What are these small brown liquid deposits? fiberglass problem small.jpg Some very tiny deposits are surfacing under new gel coat. I have no recollection of any preexisting damage or repair at this spot. There is a tiny pin hole under each deposit. The liquid feels like a foam styrene goo of som...

Re: 1963 13-footer Restoration
Redoing a 13' myself. Are you going to use any primer or undercoat for the brush on gel coat ? I originally planed to use an epoxy barrier undercoat before using brush on gel coat, but now I'm thinking it's not going to add any real additional protection sitting in between gel coat and gel coat. You...

Re: Brush-on Roll-on Gel Coat
Yes, I want to be able to leave the boat in freshwater for up to a week, if I decide to take advantage of my sons house on the lake and some spring time crappie fishing. It would not be common, but I want the option. Otherwise it will be on a trailer. I'll be honest, it's hard to process all the diff...

Re: Bottom Paint and Anti-fouling Paint
Thanks for the guidance, lots of work involved no matter which way you go.
Have decided to go with new gel coat on the bottom. Folks at Totalboat have been very helpful.

Re: Brush-on Roll-on Gel Coat
Thanks guys. Old paint is gone both top and bottom. LOTS of sanding. Nothing but the old original gelcoat left on the boat. Dealing with the spider cracks per guidance on the board. Using a Dremel tool to clean them out and get to the glass mat. Paint is on its way. May hit the bottom early next wee...

Re: Brush-on Roll-on Gel Coat
The boat is a 1963 13' classic. It's been repainted once before and the old paint is coming off fairly easily, both top and bottom. I'm going with all Total Boat products. Epoxy barrier and new brush on gel coat on the bottom, one coat with no wax, the final with wax. Standard primer for the top sid...

Brush-on Roll-on Gel Coat
I understand any type of topside paint (epoxy or poly) on the bottom will require a coat of bottom paint over it to protect it from marine growth. Additionally I understand any type of topside paint will also require a coat of bottom paint just to protect it from the water and blistering. Boston Wha...

Re: Do I even Need Bottom Paint ?
Was hoping to avoid using two different paints on the bottom. Maybe I will use a gloss anti-fouling paint.

Bottom Paint and Anti-fouling Paint
Are “bottom paint” and “anti-fouling paint” the same paint? Redoing a 13 classic and it has what looks to me to be topside paint on the bottom. If it's not going to be in the water for more than a few days at a time, do I need to go back with true bottom paint . Or, can I use the AWLGRIP I plan to u...
