Re: Towing Boat With Cushions in Cockpit
The comments from dtmackey really hit home. To take it one step further, it's also a good practice to check items bolted to the hull when doing a walk around inspection of the trailer and hull before hitting the road as well as each time there's a stop for fuel, food, etc. I came close to learning t...

Re: APPRAISAL: 1993 OUTRAGE 17
To give you a comparison, in early September 2021 we bought a 1995 Outrage 17 with a 1995 Yamaha 115-HP carburetor two-stroke power-cycle engine and a 1995 E-Z-Loader galvanized trailer from the second owner for $11,000. (All further references, unless otherwise noted, are to this specific hull/engi...

The only vendor we have used for replacement Boston Whalers cushions is Anderson Manufacturing and Upholstery. Our experience includes: ⋅ all existing cushions for a 1984 Montauk 17 were replaced in 2016 including the Reversible Pilot Seat, both console rod holder cushions and the 94 quart...

Re: Hurricane Ida
It looks like the west end of Dauphin Island got a dose of storm surge, not the worst to be sure, but enough to put Bienville Blvd. and a few vehicles under water. A few of the homes on the west end are struggling to hang on (not just from this storm) but that's an ongoing problem. Jemison's Bait lo...

For another point of info, the company mentioned in the post above also has an unassembled, unfinished, do-it-yourself RPS kit for $909.00 plus whatever charge for shipping/tax.

Re: Finally did it!
Good for you! It's a perfect area for a 170 Montauk. Near shore or off shore, weather permitting, that hull provides plenty of versatility. Over the last 20 years we've spent a lot of time in the Dauphin Island to Bay St. Louis area. It would be difficult to say enough about that stretch of Gulf Coa...

Re: Outboard Horsepower for 13-footer
Is it possible to try the engine and hull on the water before buying? We had a 1966 13-foot Boston Whaler Standard (the tiller operated model) with a strong, low-hour, manual start (so no battery weight),1996 Mercury 15-HP short-shaft engine for a number of years. With two adults, a six-gallon fuel ...

Re: Source for Wood Parts for MONTAUK
Along the same line as the suggestion by jimh, you may want to consider fabricating a sump cover in aluminum or stainless steel plate. Use a bench grinder to round the corners, a sander for finishing the edges and a drill press for fastener location and you're done. If you don't have access to those...

3M 5200 is generally used for permanent bedding/bonding. 5200 is very aggressive but can be removed with careful heat application - keeping in mind that applying heat to a gelcoated surface requires extreme care to avoid damaging the gelcoat should the deck plate ever need to be removed in the futur...

Re: How to identify Mercury 2+2 engines
As a point of reference, a Mercury Marine catalog titled "Mercury Outboards Effective October 2008" lists the 90-HP in-line three-cylinder two-stroke-power-cycle engine being available at that time. The only carbureted and "classic" two-stroke-power-cycle engines listed in the pu...

Brian,
I'm still interested in the tall stern light that is listed above as being available.
The earlier email I sent to you at the address shown in your profile has been followed up with another. If you are not receiving them, please post back here to let me know.
Thanks.
David
