Bruce—I can only understand engine mounting height in terms of number of units of 0.75-inch or holes the engine is raised above lowest mounting. I am not clear where the old or new engine were or will be mounted.

Based on my experience with a REVENGE 22 Whaler Drive and 225 legacy E-TEC, I think an 18-pitch may be too high. The G2 and H.O. may be enough extra power to turn the 18, but the only way to tell is to try it.

You are correct: higher antennas give longer range at VHF. There is no “general rule” to limit antenna height other than the practical aspects. There may be a practical limit to antenna height based on the size of the boat.

I used them for temporary mooring lines, say at a dock where we'd not be far from the boat. I don't think there was much reinforcement in my 1976 hull in that areas....
