FS: 1971 Outrage 21 Project Hull for $3,300 in New York
For-sale: a 1971 OUTRAGE 21 hull with the Ribside configuration. This is a project with plenty of open screw holes in the decks, gunwales, and transom. The cockpit deck and transom seem to be solid. The stainless rails are in place and intact. The has the original console but the wood is completely ...

Bearcat Outboard motors
I am selling a few good running Bearcat 55 engine that are in regular use . I also have tons of parts and engines, even some NOS stuff, propellers, carburetors, water pumps, and controls. I can get new impellers. I would considered selling a running engine with controls for about $1,000. Call Paul a...

1973 OUTRAGE 21: Mounting Auxiliary Engine
Hello All--In the name of speed, I'm again removing the [twin] Bearcat 55 engines from my 1973 Outrage 21, and replacing them with a single 120-HP two=stroke-power-cycle outboard engine. need a kicker [auxiliary engine] for trolling, and, with limited space on the curved transom of those hulls, I'm ...

Re: Make Deck Cover for Fuel Tank Cavity
Non-skid can be a little tough to refinish. The Boston Whaler non-skid patterns are admirable so I like to keep them when possible. What I've done with success is lightly abrade the surface with something that will allow the gel coat to bite (or knit, as we used to say in the old days). A body and f...

Re: DURATEC Additive For Improved Application of Gel Coat
Thanks Jim. That boat was worse than it looks in that picture, probably should have been scrapped but the floors and transom were rock solid so I figured it was worth the effort. Now I'm doing a '73 outrage 21 that had been sitting in a barn for 25 years. It doesn't need to be refinished (just doing...

Re: DURATEC Additive For Improved Application of Gel Coat
Here is a picture of that boat before restoration began. The boat was rough, but it turned a lot of heads afterwards--and caught a TON of salmon. And by the way, the retailer I purchased the Duratec from was Dynagrout in New York, but I'd contact Hawkeye Industries for someone local. 76 outrage 2.jpg

Re: DURATEC Additive For Improved Application of Gel Coat
Yes, [Duratec High Gloss Additive 904-001] is the product that I used for the finish coats, and it does cure to a high gloss. If you need to build up a major thickness of gel coat, however, you mix a higher ratio of gel coat to Duratec for the first few passes, then mix a 50-50 ratio for the final p...

DURATEC Additive For Improved Application of Gel Coat
If you are planning to apply a new top coat to renew a cracked or crazed gel coat surface, look into using gel coat treated with DURATEC additives as opposed to a linear polyurethane paint like AWLGRIP or IMRON. The Duratec additives are made by made by Hawkeye Industries, and they are a clear addit...

Outrage 21 Mechanical Fuel Gauge
I'm having another tank built for my [1973] Outrage 21. I was considering installing a mechanical and magnetic fuel sender and gauge as opposed to electrical because there would be fewer wires to run and less stuff to deal with in and behind the dashboard. Other than the possibility of the clear pla...

Re: Outrage 21 Wood Locating Diagram
It shouldn't affect my plan, but after a second look, I think this diagram was for the hulls that were built before the 40 gallon fuel tanks were set. The inner strips of plywood would be right over the tank - or are some of the strips actually in the tank cover? I know there is plywood in the cover...

Re: Outrage 21 Wood Locating Diagram
Jeff, just what I was looking for. The bases of the T top are 38" apart which should put all or most of the screws into the wood. Considering that its only 1/2" plywood, at a minimum I would fill the screw holes with epoxy and set good, coarse threaded screws before the epoxy cures, and I ...

Outrage 21 Wood Locating Diagram
Does anyone have access to the wood location diagrams for the 21' banana hulls? I haven't been able to locate them with a forum/google search. I am considering purchasing a T top, and doing a lot of highway trailering, I'm concerned about solid anchoring points. Thanks!

That is great, I'll will try to pm him if that's possible to get some advise on engine height and spacing. I think I've seen photos of that boat underway before, very nice, and high 30's would be terrific. I had a Revenge 19 with twin Bearcat 55's on it, that boat also only ran about 25 mph WOT. I f...

Re: 1973 Outrage 21 Twin 70-HP
That makes a lot of sense to me, Jim. I'm going to locate a couple of 17 x 13 props, set up the motors, run them, and see what happens. I'm betting (hoping) that at the most, I'll have to set different adjustments on my throttle cables and linkages to keep the morse control levers close. Unfortunate...

Re: 1973 Outrage 21 Twin 70-HP
Could the difference in output between 1985 and 1986 really be that extreme, considering that they were both made by the same manufacturer and both were prop-rated at 70-HP? And may have been assembled within weeks of each other? It seems like, in spite of a possible displacement difference, a littl...

Re: 1973 Outrage 21 Twin 70-HP
That's the kind of logic that I was hoping for, and if one of them burns more fuel than the other it won't really matter; and I would never know, anyway, because I plan on using the one tank and pickup tube. Compared to those Bearcats, I figure my overall fuel consumption will double this season any...

Re: 1973 Outrage 21 Twin 70-HP
It turns out that one of these Johnson 70-HP engines is a 1985 and the other is a 1986. I've read that the pre-1986 engine has a 49.7-cubic-inch displacement and the post-1986 has a 56.1-cubic-inch displacement. In addition, the red line was raised 6,000-RPM from from 5,500-RPM at some time in the 1...

Re: 1973 Outrage 21 Twin 70-HP
Good article. Wish I read it a few years ago, before I struggled with aftermarket primer bulbs that I bought for the Bearcats. The check valves failed in two expensive, brand new bulbs within a few days. Hard to admit it when a product turns out to be junk out of the box. I removed and disassembled ...

Re: 1973 Outrage 21 Twin 70-HP
Yes, I forgot about the primer bulb check valve, that would solve the back draw problem. Could two of these carburetor 70-HP engines draw enough fuel through the single 3/8-inch primary line and pickup tube? My guess would be "probably?"

Re: 1973 Outrage 21 Twin 70-HP
I'm assuming that with the 10% rule, these carbed 70's should burn a maximum of 7 gallons per hour (GPH) each, wide open, or 14-GPH total. The factory installed tanks have a pickup tube that looks to be about the size of a 3/8-inch pipe, feeding into a 3/8-inch hose barbed fitting. Would a single 3/...

Re: 1973 Outrage 21 Twin 70-HP
No counter rotation on these [70-HP outboard engines], nor on the Bearcat 55-HP engines, and I never noticed any problems. I guess based on that rule of thumb, 17-pitch (and 13-inch diameter I'm assuming) will be as good a place to start as any. If the engines run close to the maximum RPM, I'll make...

1973 Outrage 21 Twin 70-HP
I came across a good deal on a couple of c.1985 Johnson 70-HP outboard engine [for use on a 1973 Boston Whaler OUTRAGE 21 boat which presently has a pair of BEARCAT 55-HP engines]. I decided to give the Bearcat 55-HP engines some time off. Both of the c.1985 Johnson 70-HP engines have different prop...

Re: Boston Whaler Yankee Voyager 22' (Hiliner Gypsy)
I've had a couple of the HiLiner 21 Sportsman boats--very nice riding hulls. One had a 302 Ford with a Volvo outdrive and it was a great boat with a top speed of around 40-nautical-miles-per-hour. The other was a gutted mess which was gifted to me by one of my well-drilling customers. Being that the...

Yes, a pair of E-TEC 90-HP engine would be great on this hull. I definitely want to go a little faster and I have no problem with two-stroke-cycle engines. But as for reliability, the Bearcat 55 engines I've been running for the past three years have been incredible, and considering that they're bot...

Bearcat 85
Hello. I'm currently running a pair of Bearcat 55-HP outboard engines on an Outrage 21. I have been keeping an eye out for any Bearcat 85-HP engines. I'm aware that the 85 had limited production and was junk out of the box, which will certainly make finding and setting up two of them a challenging p...
