Source for Female Mold Pattern for Deck Nonskid
Q1: What is a source for a female mold to create a non-skid pattern? Q2: is creating a mold using compound and release the best? BACKSTORY: I have a [1986–ALWAYS USE FOUR DIGITS FOR YEARS] Montauk [17—ALWAYS INCLUDE THE LENGTH DESIGNATOR WITH THE MODEL FAMILY NAME]. I am planning to do some gel coat...

I second that. I bought a 1986 Montauk this Spring and LOVE it. Full disclosure: I had to re-power it and make a few modifications, but I don't see myself ever parting with this boat.

Re: 2002 130 Sport Swim Ladder Mounting
I don't have an answer for you, but I am very interested in hearing others' opinions.
I bought a four-step Garelick ladder to mount on my Montauk. I am undecided on the mounting method because of the engine splash well, and also undecided whether to use screw fasteners or through-bolted fasteners.

Re: MONTAUK 17, 1986 v. 1989
Biggiefl, no compression test done. Did a sea trial and put the boat through its paces. I didn't see, hear, or feel anything that concerned me so I bought the boat. Now I wonder if the boat's beauty caused me to overlook something with the outboard. I'm putting a new Suzuki on it and plan to enjoy y...

FS: parts from c.1985 Mercury 90
For-sale: parts from my [c.1985] Mercury 90-HP three-cylinder two-stroke-power-cycle engine Serial #0B166491. I bought a neglected motor on a great boat that did not reveal itself during the sea trial. A shattered piston head left me stranded on the water on my second trip out after purchasing the b...

Re: MONTAUK 17, 1986 v. 1989
Update - bought the 1986 Montauk for what I thought was a good deal until the outboard died during the second trip out on the water (pulled the exhaust cover and saw brown rust and various metal pieces in one cylinder). Now the work begins.

Re: MONTAUK 17, 1986 v. 1989
Thanks for the info, Dick and Jim. I guess by "same quality" I meant the outboards and trailers are similar age and apparent condition (again just by photos). I'm looking forward to seeing the boats' conditions and getting more information from the sellers. I'm with you in that I hope the ...

MONTAUK 17, 1986 v. 1989
I am well into my search for a classic 1970's or 1980's Montauk 17. I'm soon to check out an 1986 and an 1989. Give me your opinions, useful information, and suggestions on the two boats. Q1: other than obvious cosmetic differences (like less teak) is there a difference in quality [between the produ...
