I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it looks like the Canadian statute protecting the site of the Edmund Fitzgerald wreck has been amended since we discussed it back in 2008. The Canadian Heritage Act previously prohibited operating any submersible vehicle or towed survey equipment within 500 m...

Re: BRP Shows New Outboard Engine Integration Concept to Investors

I recall that Pursuit and some other boat manufacturers (I believe Sea Ray may have been one) tried this concept about 10 years ago. See, e.g., https://www.boatingmag.com/boats/pursuit-sc-365i/ (scroll down for pictures of the hidden outboard motors). It doesn't seem to have caught on all that well.

It Is Now Legal to Use Handheld VHF Radios While Ashore

While reading BoatU.S. Magazine this month, I learned that the FCC has issued new rules making it legal to use portable handheld VHF radios while ashore. Such radios may now be used in areas adjacent to the water, for purposes relating to the operational and business needs of an associated vessel. C...

The 22 and 23-footers that make the crossing generally cruise in the high 20s. Much slower and some of them have difficulty staying on plane. If you want to make the crossing in a 15-footer, you better hope for two really calm days.

A rendezvous is in the works for Door County, Wisconsin, in August 2016. Neither a firm date nor a firm location has yet been established.
