Re: BASS & WALLEYE BOATS Magazine

Outboard engine manufacturers have done head-to-head comparison testing on the same boat. Evinrude presented a motion-picture and sound recording of their engine mounted with a competitor's engine on a twin engine boat. They showed how the Evinrude engine could put the boat on plane by itself but t...

Johnson and Evinrude started recommending the 50:1 fuel-oil mixture in there 1964 and later engines. Several oil companies made a special outboard oils since the mid '50s that had less carbon formation than the 30 grade non-detergent automotive oils. Re: E-TEC Engine: Maintenance History After Ten Seasons

At idle your exhaust temperatures are relatively low. While on plane with the anti-ventilation plates on the surface of the water, both motors would have the exhaust extensions at the same elevation out of the water. Did your exhaust pressure sensor tube show signs of burning up from extremely high ...

That is a great post about the servicing history of your Evinrude E-TEC. It is proof that the E-TEC engines require less maintenance than older traditional outboards and the popular 4-strokes of today. In your post you mentioned " In-hose filter at EMM Cooling Return Line to Vapor Separator and...

That [mentioned advice about height of the anti-ventilation plate relative to the water flow around it] is correct.

On most planing boats an E-TEC G2 can be mounted two-holes higher than the former engine was mounted.

Since the motor is a '99 , the powerhead is NOT a 2000 according to the software report. A 2000 175 engine is completely different. Re: Engine fuse blowing, sometimes

You can remove the purple wire from the keyswitch to eliminate the gauges and engine components. If it blows when priming remove purple-white wire and retest. if it still blows fuses there is a keyswitch problem. You said that it did not blow while cranking the motor, that is the yellow-red wire

Re: Engine fuse blowing, sometimes

That fuse feeds 12v through the red wire to the keyswitch which in turn feeds the 12v to the purple wire for gauges, accessories if installed, and power back to the motor when the key is ON. Look closely under the dash at the gauge wiring and connections and for any chafing or rubbing of the harness...
