I have a carpeted bunk trailer. I spray silicone on the carpet. The bunks are slippery enough that I do not unhook the winch until the boat is over water.

That looks like a nice Montauk. If you are going to keep the boat and If the budget will stand it buy a new trailer.
I have seen dimples in the bottom of a Whaler where the rollers ride. Who knows what will happen with your rig.

Yes.
Maybe someone squeezed the oil line primer bulb and filled the carburetors.
Or your fuel system has an air leak and the VRO is over oiling.
There are a bunch of possibilities. You need an experienced tech to sort it out.

My 1987 Outrage 18 goes into my garage with a 6-foot 11-inch high opening.
The height of any boat depends on the trailer height. Also the hull chines need to be between the fenders.

The Montauk is a great boat. I travel with my engine partly up with a chunk of wood filling between the lower unit and the mounting bracket. A little down pressure on it.

I bought my new aluminum/galvanized steel trailer new ~ 2006. I remember paying about $3100. Thought that was a lot back then but happy I bought quality. Mine is a Phoenix brand built East of the Mississippi River.

If I were sure I was going to buy a 170 Montauk that was in stock, I would offer the dealer a $350 non-refundable deposit to cover his cost if you changed your mind after a sea trial. If he did not take that offer I would look for another dealer.

I raised mine because I was going to put a power tilt and trim motor on the boat. Most of those are 20”.
If you can buy a 15” motor I would not raise the transom. Just come off plan slower so as not to get pooped by the wake.

My 1987 Outrage 18 trailer is 4 bunks also.
Keel bunks touch at forward end and about 18” apart at stern. I think this makes the boat load centered.
The starboard outer bunk needs to miss the sump drain.
Trial and error fitting is required.

I am wondering at what speed I should be able to expect a reliable depth sounder reading. I have a 1987 Outrage 18 and have installed a new Garmin GT 23 transducer.
