13-footer with notched 15-inch transom steering
I am in the middle of restoring a 1970 13-footer. I am just mounting a 2001 Mercury 30-HP FOURSTROKE short-shaft engine. The wire-rope-and-pulley steering system is now replaced with mechanical cable steering. The mechanical cable steering actuator rod [passing through the Tilt Tube on the engine] s...

Re: 1970 13 SPORT Project
Hi Bill--yes [the cradle seen above was] all done with 2x4's. It holds the boat perfectly. Originally I thought I would have to strap down the boat, but that is not needed at all. Width is 26-inches (outside dimensions of the bunks). Length is 5-feet, There are two 8-inche overhangs, so 76-inches to...

Re: Upgrade 30-HP to 40-HP
On a different forum and about a Mercury three-carburetor FOURSTROKE. This is a very easy upgrade and costs about $15. All you have to due [sic]is pull the carbs and spacer and replace the isolator with the 40 one(#834784T) as the 30 has smaller holes (restricter plate) [Bad url removed. Please do n...

Re: Upgrade 30-HP to 40-HP
The previous owner [upgraded the engine]. The marina tells me [the upgrade to 40-HP from 30-HP is] simply a restrictor plate change[.]

Re: 1970 13 SPORT Project
3 coats Primer on the hull. The dolly is built for when the boat is flipped back over upright.
That is all so far. I will keep posting as I go. I would love any feedback or tips. This site is great for content and information.

Need Links to a Transom Plate
[The transom of a 1970 SPORT 13]I am restoring f]eels sturdy, but the effects of multiple engines installed and removed linger. Has an aluminum plate ever been put on the transom [of a 1970 SPORT13]? [I do not mean] a jack plate. [I mean] something that fits snuck [snug] on the transom. [I am c]urio...
