Re: Keel Repair - Beach Burn
After viewing your picture I think you're just missing some gel coat. I'd wipe that area down with acetone to clean the surface and spray some gel coat on it. You can use a Preval sprayer to thin (with acetone) the gel coat. This will give you a clean, smooth looking finish.

Re: Keel Repair - Beach Burn
Marine Tex is more of a marine Bondo repair. It's great for smaller fixes, sandable, and paintable. It's about the consistency of toothpaste in thickness and is comes in white and gray. West Sytem is one of the top of the line epoxies. Mixed without fillers it's fairly clear and has a honey like thi...

Re: Keel Repair - Beach Burn
You could use Marine Tex or West System for a repair in this situation being that they're both epoxy. Marine Tex applied the way Phil has described allows the epoxy to cure to a glossy white (gel coat like) finish.

If you purchase the Dragonfly Pro option it gives you the WiFish feature. This allows you to broadcast (through wifi) a second display to your phone or tablet.

It looks like the mounts for that tank would miss screwing into a proper wood surface according to the wood locating diagram. Do you recall hitting wood or is it just screwed into the foam and non-skid?

I have a Seachoice (#52251) 2000lb on my 170 Montauk. Works great.

Re: MONTAUK Re-power; Transom Has Been Modified
It sounds like you're referring to a jack plate. These will get you about a 5 inch variance in height. http://thmarine.com/th-marine-products/outboard-jack-plates/manual-jack-plates/cmc-manual-jack-plates.html I agree that repair of the transom would be the proper solution. However, if money is a pr...

Re: Igloo Sportsman Cooler 55-Quart
The Sportsman 55 is currently priced $199.98 at Sams Club. That's a great price for a comparable cooler. I've also looked at the Coleman Esky series but their dimension are a little rounded and oddly shaped.

Re: 170 MONTAUK Re-power with 115-HP Mercury Command Thrust
Yes, I agree Timf. I believe the larger gearcase does slow it a bit. But I wanted the extra low end torque and 40mph is still plenty of speed. I use to be a competitive barefoot water-skier and I'd bet that I could foot behind it. With that said, my main reason for low end torque is for better contr...

Re: 170 MONTAUK Re-power with 115-HP Mercury Command Thrust
The 170 Montauk topped out at 40-MPH with the Mercury 90-HP FOURSTROKE Command Thrust. It's propped with Mercury's Enertia 14.2 X 18 propeller. [The 170 MONTAUK] handled great and [the 90-HP engine] felt like more than enough horsepower to get the job done! I had two people on board, one dog, and 12...

Re: 170 MONTAUK Re-power with 115-HP Mercury Command Thrust
timf--I'll keep you posted on the performance. He didn't go into too much detail from what I remember. Sorry. Dutchman--the Mercury Command Thrust has the larger gear case from their 150-HP FOURSTROKE model, so it has a considerable amount of torque and a much larger propeller blade than a standard ...

Re: 170 MONTAUK Re-power with 115-HP Mercury Command Thrust
Yes, the Montauk 170 is right on the edge for recommendation of the the Mercury 90 FOURSTROKE Command Thrust. [Command Thrust] allows the option of larger [diameter] propellers, especially if you're looking for better control and lower end torque. If you're going for top-end speed, then the standard...

170 MONTAUK Re-power with 115-HP Mercury Command Thrust
I'm currently re-powering a 2004 Montauk 170. I was leaning towards the Mercury 115 FOURSTROKE Command Thrust since it is the same footprint as the 90. I talked with an engineer at Boston Whaler, and he said the 90-HP would be the maximum for that boat. They do tests, and they have maximum ratings f...
