1999 OUTRAGE 21 with 150-HP

My friend has a 1999 Outrage 21 re-powered with 2019 Suzuki 150-HP engine. The engine is mounted one-hole-up, and the propeller is a Suzuki three-blade 15 x 21-pitch (part number 990C0-00830-21P). The top boat speed is 30-MPH when the engine accelerates to 5,000-RPM at full-throttle. The maximum RPM...

Re: 1995 OUTRAGE 24: Repair Fuel Tank

PC7 is great stuff, I have used it on a tractor gas tank with pin holes and never had any leaks. Also I used it to repair a professional grade chainsaw. The saw had a one piece magnizium case that included the gas tank and the gas tank area got hit with a grab hammer and cracked. Rather than replaci...

Re: Appraisal: 1985 Guardian 17

I have one of these hulls, a 1999 Alert 17 with gray gel coat. These are great boats. First thing I would do is take it to a truck scale and weigh it. The bare hull should weigh around 1,000 to 1,050-lbs--if dry. [If the boat under discussion does not] have a lot of holes, that is good news. If the ...

Re: 1988 Montauk 17: Battery Location Survey

I have a 1999 Alert 17 which is the same hull as a Montauk. When I converted it to a center console this winter I moved the battery to the center console from the starboard stern. My boat has a Tohatsu 6-HP auxiliary engine mounted directly to the transom on the Port side and it weighs 59-lbs. After...

Re: Cutting out rigging tube on 1999 Alert 17

Update on the rigging tube on my 1999 Alert 17. This morning I found the front opening of the rigging tube, it was at the very back of the marked rectangle on the deck where the center console sits. It is not a finished sump like in the back of the boat instead it comes to the deck surface via a 45 ...

Just to clarify my 1999 Alert 17 being a side console from the factory never had the rigging tube opened up like a center console does. All the rigging was run down the starboard side behind the side rail.

Cutting out rigging tube on 1999 Alert 17

I am in the process of converting my 1999 Alert 17 from a side console to a center console. I started at the back and cut out the rigging tube in the sump and it went great. Next I went to the front where there is a rectangular mark on the deck where the front of the rigging tube is supposed to be a...

I have a Yamaha F70 on my 1999 Alert 17 and I love it. [Boat speed is] about 37-MPH at full throttle. In my case I had a 2005 Mercury 75-HP two-stroke-power-cycle outboard engine. I re-powered with a 2014 Yamaha F70. Re: Kicker for classic Montauk 17

At 366-lbs for your F75 Yamaha, a kicker is out of the question IMO; there is already too much weight on the back of the Montauk 17. If your battery is in the rear of your boat I would move it under the console to transfer some of the weight. Also a Honda 2.3 hp is not enough horsepower as a backup,...

Re: MONTAUK 17 Re-power: Yamaha or E-TEC

I am very happy with the Yamaha F70 on my 1999 Alert 17. I really like the light weight and the effect it has on the handling of the boat. If I had the need for 90-HP, the E-TEC 90 would be on the back of my boat. At 320 lbs the E-TEC 90 is still light enough to not affect the handling and seaworthi...

Just another little tip, I also use these on the bottom of my cooler to keep it from sliding around and again no holes need to be drilled. 1 strip in each corner keeps my cooler full of walleye and ice secure.

I think you made a wise decision. A 320-lbs outboard is just right for a Montauk 17, 400-lbs is too much weight on the rear of a Montauk 17. I know this from experience. You should be very happy with the regular E-TEC 90.
